Timing marks on 97 785 pro
The other day I was out riding and all was good until it stalled at idle and wouldn't start again, I came home and did a compression test and all cylinders were 135, I put a new set of plugs in and still not a pop out of it, even tried a sniff of aerostart and still nothing, on checking for tdc with a dial gauge the mark is about 30?? after tdc, I assumed it was a broken flywheel key but it wasn't
Should the timing mark be on TDC? Could it be a twisted crankshaft?
    TIA

You can use the "pencil" trick to get an idea if you're out of phase or not. http://greenhulk.net/showthre...=1#post1502246

You can find the manual in here: http://pwcmanuals.shorturl.com/ (Some of the links may be broken, you may have to google around to find the proper manual)

      Welcome to GreenHulk.
The crank "snub" ,(front peice) is literally one peice with the very first rod hole, where the #1 rod bearing is located.
So #1 can not be out of time with the flywheel key. It is possible for #2 or #3 to be out of time with the flywheel key.
On the domestic engines the key does line up with TDC, I'm not that familiar with the Fuji engines.

I seem to remember mention of a "welded flywheel" for the Pro. Is it possible for it to spin ? As in, it's made of more then one peice.

        Welcome to the Hulk

What do you mean it wasn't the woodruff key? I assume it's still intact?

How did you determine 30* after TDC with a dial indicator? Usually this requires a degree wheel.

Casey is spot on. The flywheel is aligned with the crank snout. It cannot come out of time without the woodruff key shearing and the flywheel spinning.

The only other possibility I can think of on the Pro 785 is the rivets on the flywheel have failed in some fashion.
My ski says made in the U.S.A...... Can yours say that???
