So I have a bad start stop module , mine is a 503-1. My question is can I use a 503? The wire colors are all the same . Is there a difference?

The "- numbers" are typically later models of the LR. Typically had some sort of upgrade or improvement. Sometimes they still had the same Polaris part #, That can be checked here; Advanced Search (polarisind.com)
Usually only new LR available is aftermarket. They probably don't list the "-number".
We do see issues with the aftermarket LR"s not working as they should. -
