  • 1999 Polaris Pro 785 rescued from the desert.

Hi All, have just purchased a 1999 Pro 785. It has been sitting in a desert compound in Dubai for a few years. I have no idea about its history but it has a few mods MSD , red top carbs etc. Hope to strip down the engine this weekend, fingers crossed its salvageable. I have no idea what I'm letting myself in for.

Welcome to the site. Cool ski you got there. I was guessing it would have some upgrades on it being all the way over there.

As noted, Red top carbs, gas valves, MSD ignition coils at least, the triple pipes look interesting. It appears one is on the starboard side of the fuel tank? Also aftermarket sponsons.

Better pics of the exhaust, and how about the bottom of the ski? Looking for the ride plate and intake grate specifically.
My ski says made in the U.S.A...... Can yours say that???

That's the black "donkey dong" intake tube haha.

It looks like there are some holes in the side of the hull on one of the outside pics. Definitely had something going on there before....maybe MSD coils with OEM ignition now?

Thanks for the feedback , I have attached some more photos. I am learning everything about this Polaris from this forum. It caught my eye when on an online auction , I noticed the MSD and thought this looks cool and could be interesting. Click image for larger version

Very cool find, keep us posted. Always great to see a Pro 785 saved from destruction, part out, or being abandoned.

I forgot about that thing. It looked like it was bulbous to me. That's why I thought it was an expansion pipe. I was hoping to see something totally original. Oh well.

Looks like factory pipes unless they were the the shortened Jet Pro version. Polaris Exhaust (Domestic & Fuji) (greenhulk.net)

8 vane jet pump is a nice touch.

I hope you're able to get that back to running condition. It should be a pretty fun ride.

That sand looks like it got into everything. You're going to have to open everything up for cleaning and inspection.

How difficult is it getting parts in Dubai?

The spark plugs are new and the original sales bill was inside the hull , dated 2012 .
looks like shes been sitting for nearly 10 years.
I am planning a complete strip down as im sure its needed.

All replacement parts will have to be sourced online and unfortunately from experience with other projects things that seem cheap double in price once you add the shipping.

I know this is the least of my problems but I think I may need a new seat cover.

WOW, these exhausts are fun to remove. All the mounts were broken and someone has tried bonding them back on before.

It looks like the impeller and exhausts are stock ?

Engine is ready to lift out so hopefully next weekend I can find out how it looks on the inside.

                        Pictures didn't post.

The color of the exhaust pipes make them look stock for the Pro785.

From what we've seen, the jet pump stator is not stock. The stock impeller was a Skat Trac 12/17, which is a fairly small pitch and might work with the 8 vane stator. I beleive you will want to see like 7800-7900 rpm.

Stock parts could be looked up here: https://parts.polarisind.com/Browse/Browse.asp

"Stock" is a loaded term. The Pro785 was a factory race Pwc, that was fairly well equiped with good race parts. when they first came out I beleive they were competitive as is and set the pace in their race class. There is still a 800cc race class they still win.

The pipes look to be stock to me.

The impeller is not stock. The earlier pro 785 models came with a Skat Trak 12/17. The later model years like the one you have came with the Nu Jet impeller.

So your Skat Trak 13/18 was added.

The engine is out, Cylinders do not look too bad but crank will need rebuilding , it looks like it's been sitting in salty water for a while. Also noticed the center inlet gasket was not fitted correctly so may have previously caused running issues.
