  • Polaris red 1200 carbed engine, cooling system modifications

2000 models have no thermostat or pop-off pressure bypass valve. 2001 does.

The 2001 has a different water manifold (different part number), with a reversed thermostat and valve orientation and an enlarged t-stat/pop-off flow area.

To take advantage of this even more so I suggest enlarging the two feed holes behind the plastic mesh screen in the jet pump nozzle into an oval.

In the factory configuration the PTO cylinder sees way more water flow than the other two cylinders because of the self drain feature incorporated into the rear of the exhaust manifold.

Turning this into a manual drain (with valve) forces more water to pass thru the cen and mag cylinders.I used the stock self drain tee and inserted the shutoff valve and brass tee into that line.

At the bottom of the brass tee, that hose feeds into the bottom of the stator cooling cover.
The stator cooling covers are factory on Ficht fuel injected engines, and will bolt right on using the longer bolts that the Ficht skis uses.
The tee fitting also serves as the self drain for that cover. my pisser comes off the cover's top port and never goes lower than the cooling cover and the feed hose stays below the bottom port. This ensures the flywheel cover water jacket always self drains.

If you convert to a manual drain i recommend you up the pto jet one size. The stator cooling cover does remove noticeable heat from the 1200,as my pisser is located up front and i can feel the heat in the water on my foot at speed.
I've routed my setup for the cooling cover to be self draining at all times when it has no pump pressure.
I'm currently running the 2001 stinger size of .090,the 2001 carb jetting with the pto at 138 main jet(one size up).

As a side note I've also added the cooling cover to my twin 777 motor setup.

Nice !!! How did this jetting and cooling work out ?

Would it be advisable to remove the thermostat? Would that make the machine run too cool?
