Burned wire?

Is this my engine ground wire or the wires going to the stator? A group if wires look burned. Just picked up the ski. On the left side of the engine

Also is it supposed to be this of a mess in here and what's this plumbing type connection?

That plumbing type connection is so that you can hook a water hose up to the engine when you are running it out of water so that there is coolant going through the heads.
