Beach House Sponsons
Sponson Install.
Installation Instructions PolarisPrior to any work on PWC - remove seat to ventilate fumes and disconnect the battery. For '97, '98 785 Pro model use the stock mounting.
For all other models- To get the best results drill holes and move sponson to bottom edge of hull, to do this, use back plate for a template (See illustration below).
To mount into stock inserts:- Remove the stock sponsons and clean the surfaces.
- Apply silicone to the back of the back plate. For performance reasons BHE sponsons are shorter than stock, so skip front hole. Make sure it is a sealed insert, if not fill it. Attach back plate to the hull (rounded edge goes to the front of the hull and angled side next to the hull) with the 1" bolts, small washer and use locktite.
- Tighten snugly and check them occasionally for tightness.** Note: Do not use power tools to tighten bolts, hand tighten only w/ #3 hand screw driver.
- Attach the sponsons to the back plate with the 7/8" bolts using locktite on the threads. If using very top hole (illegal for racing) you will need a sm. washer, screw will be to long. Tighten snugly and check them regularly for tightness. If you turn the bolt your locktite seal is broken, re-locktite it.
- You are done! Go try them out.
- Cut a block of foam out of hull so you can get to the inside where the sponsons will mount. Heat a serrated steak knife to cut like butter. Remove anything in your way or that you might drill through.
- Use back plate for a template see illustration below (double faced tape can help hold it up).
- Drill 1/4" holes at mounting holes.
- Apply silicone to the back of the back plate especially around mounting holes. Attach to hull using the 1" bolt and small washer through the outside and on the inside heavily silicone holes and use 1" washers w/ lock nuts.** Note: Do not use power tools to tighten bolts, hand tighten only (10 ft. lbs.). ** NOTE: IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO USE LARGE WASHER ON INSIDE OF THE HULL, they will pull out through the hull if the large washers are not used.
- Put everything back together and clean up. You are done! Go try them out.
PositionsRacers should always check their rules to make sure of any new rule changes or different rules in your area.
In Stock holes: Top hole is a little more aggressive than stock, try them all to see what works for you.
785 Pro or Sponson moved to bottom edge of hull:
Top holes not IJSBA legal *WARNING*(Sponson very low) - WARNING: Recommended only for very experienced riders. On high speed turns you must lean in bracing on the inside of turn holding on as well as you can. This is a very aggressive position.
Middle holes -IJSBA race legal position- Experienced riders and racers. Aggressive lean in position.
Bottom holes -IJSBA race legal position- It is a lean in position and liked by most riders and racers.
Front and back holes depend on style of riding and weight. Try them all to find what is best for you.
No sponson (back plate only)- Lean out turning and your spin out type of fun.
IJSBA Race Legal - They must be in the lower 3 holes on the sponson. The latest new rules as of the '95World Finals are; They can only hang down 1 1/2" from the bottom of the back plate no matter where the back plate is located. The back plate cannot go below the bottom of the hull.
*WARNING*These sponsons can be very, very aggressive. Be very careful, take time getting use to them. On high speed turns they can throw you off extremely hard if your not ready to turn, hold on tight. We are not responsible for injury of you or your boat. SO HOLD ON! And Please Be Careful.
