  • Bicycle Pump Pop off tester

The following is an inexpensive way to build a pop off tester. This was using brass parts. Most parts are available at local stores:

    Parts needed:

Tire Gauge - Slime 20048 (Sourced at Walmart, available at Amazon)
Tee - Female 1/8" NPT - Watts LFA-704(Sourced at Home Depot, available at Amazon)
    Fitting - 1/4" ID male pipe to Male 1/8" NPT - LDR 508 139-4-2psc=1"]Amazon[/URL])

The only part I couldn't find locally was the Schrader valve. The links above total about $25, but locally the parts were less than $20.

Remove the stem from the Tire Gauge. I needed to put the gauge in a bench vise, then remove the stem with Channel Locks.

Then assemble the balance of the components using sealer on the threads.

Connect a 1/4" fuel line to the barb and the inlet side of the carb you are testing.

Attach your bike pump to the schrader valve and away you go!!

This assembly does not contain a check valve to hold pressure in the gauge so you will have to watch for when the carbs pop off to see the peak pressure.

Please add variations, additional components, and comments to this thread!!!

Could the valve portion be cut from a used old-school bicycle inner tube?

Hose clamp and hose of the appropriate size to adapt as needed.
