  • 04 RXP electrical issues (Cont.) lol

So I've been tinkering with another 04 rxp over this past summer/winter. Its a buddies and I replaced the head gasket for him as well as put in updated valves, and flywheel bolts.
Anyways, since that service we've been having issues with the electrical system, most notable the display and all buttons on the handle bars except the start/stop button. The display will only show the words "Sea Doo". I told him to take it to the dealership and hook it up to buds to see if there were any codes, it through some codes (Which he forgot to write down ) but the dealership told him it was a short in the system somewhere. I'm not even sure where to start on this thing! I've checked all the grounds the they're good to go, so what's next ?

Oliver, swap the mpem also.An other fault will be on the wiring harness.I had some troubles when I was working on a 05 RXP,it had damaged harness in several points.I took a used one and my problem solved.

P.S.:Take a look at the point of the harness where it leaves the motor going to the mpem,at the right front on the intake manifold. If the harness touches the ski wall may be damaged.

Okay so he brought the ski over this morning. I already had my ECU out and plugged it into his ski and the info center started showing other words. Like maintenance, Key (because I plugged his key in), sensor, etc. Does this sound right?
When I took out my ECU and put his back in the ski would only show the words Sea-Doo again nothing else...seems like the ECU is the issue?

Sounds like the ECU to me, does it still run? If it does run I wouldn't worry too much about it. I would re-do the test with your ECU in his ski and your key. If it allows you to toggle through the menus definatley sounds like ECU.

If you need an ecu I have 3 or 4 for the 04' RXP. I have one with 27hrs, 47 hrs and 87 hrs and forget what the 4th one has anyways shoot me a pm if intersted. I can include one yellow key (full jam key), and one white (learner key) with puchase.

Well the ski runs with his, it just only will show "Sea-Doo". I tried to toggle with mine installed and it still wouldnt toggle but it was showing other words...his battery is completely dead so no way of starting it right now as I dont have a battery from my ski available.

Yes now you just need to find him a ecu and have his key reprogrammed and his cluster remarried in vegas

Okay, thats what I thought but just wanted to double check my reasoning.
