  • RXP X bars

I have a 05 RXP, I am wanting to run the X handlebars on it. I bought an 09 X last year and really love the feel and clean look of them. Ive been kind of reading up and if I understood right I would need to change some of the wiring pins for it to work correctly? Just looking of confirmation that I can make the X system work on a 05 RXP. Thanks!

I did not need to change any wiring, just re-route them.

Yours was a 06, I believe in 04-05 they had one more mode set button on the left side handle.

The mode-set button needs to be relocated some where else, and some modifications do need to be done to the wiring harness. Your also going to need the X steering cable turn buckle. Speed freeks makes a nice adapter plate as well for this modification. It's not a must have deal..... but without it there will be an opening between the hull & steering base.

Could always throw a set of high rise renthals on

Yeah I saw the adapter plate, I would definately use that if I could get my hands on the steering of an X. I'm not real sure where a good place would be for the mode-set buttons to go..

Right on the steering base is a good place. Accessible, yet out of the way.

Yeah that's perfect. How hard was the swap to do?

It's a pretty straight forward swap out. You have to clearance a bit of the hull for fitment, but after that it bolts right up! Modifying the wiring harness takes up the majority of the installation time.

So the only thing that I would need to modify is the newer style start/stop and vts to connect into the harness?

It's been a few years since I did this, so I don't remember all the exact details of what needs to be done. From memory... the VTS & start-stop buttons work just fine in the X housing. The mode-set button & the buzzer wires need to be removed (possibly lengthened-shortened?) from the factory harness in order to relocate them. I believe I also had to lengthen the DESS post wires? Nothing major... just solder & heat shrink everything back up, and it works perfectly. You will also need the plastic nut used on the X model to secure the buzzer in it's new location, and you'll want to use the rubber boot off the X model that goes on the back of the DESS post.... otherwise you'll see the wires.

Yeah that renthal set up is nice

Thanks a ton, thats what I needed to know. Sounds like there isnt to much to it, other than ordering the X throttle cable as well
