  • Choice between a GTR 215 or an RXT IS 260???

Just wondering what everyones take is on the following two ski's as I cant really make my mind up.

    So both the same cash:

    2012 GTR 215 with 30 hrs.

    Or

    2011 RXT IS 260 with 70 hours.

What would you say the best ski is? Guessing the Speed factor with power to weight would be the same??

I would go for GTR 215! They are blast to ride and enough power! Plus better fuel economy compare to 260 engine!

GTR 215 would be easier to throw around and easier to work on

id say the rxt would be a little quicker from a stand still, but the gtr has just the right amount of get up and go

          GTR
but I am a little biased owning one myself.

the IS's are heavy machines and a bit difficult to access should you want to work on it yourself.

The GTR is a year newer with much fewer hours. It will also be easier to work on because the suspension can be a pain in the ass. However, the RXT is a faster machine and if I was purchasing a new machine I'd go with the RXT. It's personal preference. You have to choose based on your wants and needs. For example, if you only ride rivers you probably don't need the suspension.

I think alot depends on price. Same price the IS is a better riding machine worth more money. If you are going to mod the 215 anyway why not start with a 260 too

People that are saying the GTR have never been in the nasty rough on an IS model. Place these two side by side and nail the throttle then take a nice turn. If you plan to mod go for the standard RXT. If you don't and buy the extended warranty the RXT IS is unbeatable.

only time I'd choose an Is is if my back went out and I had to give up 'sport riding' for just 'cruising' w/ no option of getting back to 'sport riding'.... yes, you can lock-down the suspension, but all that weight

maybe I'm just spoiled after only having to deal with a paltry 760lb GTR

don't get me wrong; I'm sure that the suspension is great, especially when you get into BIG chop, but that kind of water usually has me on the trailer anyway.

someday I may consider one for the wife, as she has more 'artificial/metal' joints than an F-22, but for now, even she's content with a smaller, lighter GTI.

                      This is very true.

One of the best parts about the suspension in rough water is how much better the ride is when you have a passenger. That's something you don't need to worry about since you have two skis. It all depends on the conditions you're riding in, which is why none of us can really tell him what to get. The best we can do is let him know the differences between the models and what each model is best for.

Does the 2011 RXT-iS have the pump mounted to the ride plate or pump shoe? If its the same setup as the 2010-2011 RXT-X models where it bolts to the ride plate then stay away.

I would def get the GTR. Here are my reasons. Lower hours, easier to work on the suspension skis are a PITA to work on, lighter, more nimble, faster, more storage 30 gal to the 16 gal in the IS, smaller fuel tank (less $$ to fill up, but should last the same as the 260). FASTER in acceleration, would be in top end too but they all top out the same. Weight of a GTR is 765lbs and the IS is 970 lbs!! I rode one well, a GTX with IS same ski basically and it was a dog...boring to ride and it was bumpier then I thought it would be with the suspension. My GTR is def. more fun to ride then the heavy IS skis. In the chop the GTR handles well, I was looking at a RXT but soo glad I got the GTR. I do 85% Ocean riding, my buddy has a 2012 PX and his handles the chop better then the GTR but he likes my ski in the ocean as well, has a nice comfy seat too compared to the hard PX seat. And plus one on what Elite one stated, I believe the 2010 and 2011 have the pumps bolted to the ride plate.....stay away., GTR for the win!!
