  • What happened?

Pulled the charger to check slip but couldn't fit the gear wrench over the gear. Upon closer inspection.............did I dodge a BOOM or what?

How long has it been since you checked the slip on that? What was it set to previously?

You just dodged a big BOOM...

Looks like the one clutch was cut a little too big...

The gear is probably toasted also...

Who did the work on it?

A full rebuild kit is what I suggest, who knows what else could be whacked out of alignment...

Does that supercharger have as much time on it as your engine does.

Ok, here's what I'm thinking as to what happened......

Charger is a ET68/140. It was completely rebuilt 18 hours ago by Rich (WFO). Bought the rebuild kit from the GH store and I believe it had the latest clutches. I pulled the S/Cer at about the 10 hour mark and checked the slip, and it was exactly where it was set at; 18 ft/lbs. On my last ride the ski didn't "feel" right so it went back on the trailer. Pulled the charger again after viewing my data log......saw reduced boost #s and a lot of knock.

The cause......2 rides ago I found a go fast Yamalog at Lake Somerville. I'm not sure if it was an FZR/FZS but it sure was fast even in the choppy conditions. I could catch up with it but not pass. I was amazed at how well the Yammi was staying hooked up. Not so with my ski. In fact I hit one wave that nearly pitched my butt off the ski. I'm thinking all that hooking/unhooking did in one of the clutches. My other concern is the flywheel bolts.

Have tortured a 70-145 on a 06 RXP hull which constantly unhook riding in any chop. Never seen signs of that sort of clutch fail. Sheared updated flywheel bolts off first.
really am interested to see what you find. They must have got bloody hot but? Oil supply ok?

The oil supply was good: I always run it at just below the full mark. I agree the clutches may have over heated causing this problem. Because I'm concerned about the flywheel bolts, and with nearly 250 hours on this engine I've decided to completely rebuild the engine and S/C. WFO will be handling the rebuild of both. Will have Rich take pics of the teardown and post them in my thread (listed in my signature).
