  • This is why we should all be running a water strainer before the intercooler

Here are some pictures of a leaky intercooler that had the end tanks cut off of it. The customer was complaining of a leaking intercooler that was only 6 months old.
He flushed after every ride. He did not however have a water strainer on the water line feeding his intercooler.

If you take a look at the attached pics you will see small white pieces of shell jammed into the coils, not to mention the sand that fell out. In one of the pics
you can see a piece of shell stuck right where the leak is, its marked with black marker to show point of leak.

I'm making this post as I hear about leaky intercoolers all the time and none of these guys are running water strainers.

It only takes one small piece of a shell, rock, wood , sand, etc. to wear a hole into a fin of these intercoolers. Just imagine the amount of water pressure going
through here and what a piece of shell will do rattling inside.

Another thing to consider if you have an obstruction from a piece of shell, sand, wood, etc. and you flush your intercooler after every ride that one passage that is obstructed is not getting flushed, therefore salt water is going to corrode a hole rather quickly.

I hope this helps you guys out and helps prevent leaking intercoolers in your future!

Why don't Seadoo fit one of these if this is known to happen.
Here in Ireland we only get 2 yrs warranty and if I fitted this Filter would I invalidate my warranty?

Probably to reduce costs. Installing a water strainer will absolutely not void your warranty.

A little advice here guys. The strainer is a great product, works well, and obviously needs to be cleaned frequently.

I found that the fittings included with this kit can and will get brittle and crack over several years. Been there done that.

I highly recommend you use Schedule 80 fittings from Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware, etc. The hoses use 3/4" fittings.

Over kill maybe, but this is the last place you need a leak inside the hull.

I view the whole strainer as a wear item because the bowl can get brittle and crack too. Most of these strainers we are using aren't designed for the pressure we put through them.

I agree with Jerry, I only have to look at what the filter catches to warrant having one.

Ill grab a picture next time I am out, as its a real eye opener.

                              Most....

Yeah... - I want the one outside of these "most" and not as a wear item...
I dont care the money it will cost, but I am not putting in another risk.
