Yes, it will work just fine. You put the strainer in the water line feeding the intercooler.

I have a pair of 2008 GTX 215 Limited. I only had Yamaha before so new to seadoo's. I ride only saltwater and take good care of my equipment. So adding something like this seems like the smart choice. However I am not sure where to add it. I look at some of the pictures posted but non of them helped me. Can someone please show me where I should tie into the system?

You don't need to use a water strainer for the intercoolers on 215 skis. The water passages on those intercoolers are huge and will not clog.

Has anyone installed a strainer on a 2019 Rxtx? Placement with pics would be nice, thanks.

I've had many 2-stroke engine failures due to no strainer. I had a little shell wedge itself in a metered fitting in one engine, and sand completely clog a hose in another. They still ran, but I was always chasing phantom problems and having premature failures. Only later did I find out the real cause. I run water screens on all my water toys religiously now.

              Greetings!

First post on your forum and thanks to all for the vast amount of knowledge and information available on this forum. Although I've had boats all my life, little planes, many sport bikes and some great cars, this 2020 Sea-Doo GTX 300 is my first pwc and I'm thoroughly enjoying this sport...

As I'm interested in "must do" mods while the ski is new, I'm trying to do them so things like catch can and strainer/filter are easy to inspect and service ideally removing only the seat. Does anyone see a problem with lengthening the fresh water circuit to the intercooler a few feet so I can mount the strainer port side above the exhaust under the seat so it's easier to inspect/service as long as care is taken not to allow kinks in the hoses?

                Welcome.

An aspect that can be important with watercraft is that often the 'fresh water' system is designed to be self-draining.

When the engine is shut down, and especially when the hull is lifted out of the water on a trailer, the water is supposed to drain away. This reduces risk of freeze damage (during winter storage) and not trapping water inside where it can promote corrosion or marine growth while the machine sits.

Changing the water hose routing to add a high(er) loop might inadvertently prevent the water from draining out (as much).

I am not familiar with the exact model you have nor whether there would be any drainage concern in your case.

Thanks for the welcome and the reply. Very good point on the drainage and I'll keep that in mind as I do the mod. The level of the strainer would be no higher than where most put theirs and will make sure that everything "runs downhill" to be self draining other than the strainer bowl itself. As this water line isn't something like boost or sensor hoses where reaction time due to expansion/contraction is an issue, it didn't seem that it would be critical.

                  Thanks again!
                  Chris

I’d like to install a strainer in my Rxtx 300 2019. Does anyone have pics on where I would mount it. Looking for the right spot. Thanks

Some are talking about the longevity of these plastic strainers. Any thaughts on this model?

I think you will be the guy to find out the best spot on the ST3 hull.
The Groco plastic one will hold up good with stock set up water pressure.
                            Just don't loosen the O-ring....

Few years ago installing the Groco strainer was kinda 'hot'.
As you can see on the dates of these threads.
Also the failure rate of the stock IC's was pretty high that time.
The 300 IC's are apparently much better, at least you don't read that much about them. Only now and then the 'is this condensation' debate.

I used them in the past but never bothered putting one on my newest ski. So far so good after 2 years. 100% Salt and using SaltAway.

Sorry for the sideways pic, but water level at an all-time low at my place that I occasionally ride and, we’ll now you understand the concern and reason I ordered for my 2019 300.
