I already have a 2015 rxpx 260, looking for opinions on if i should just mod the 260, get a new 300 or go with the yama1800, saw the 1800 at the boat show yesterday its not the best looking ski and its pretty basic but the engine is huge and i heard pretty cheap to go fast... im just skeptical on how it will be in rough water on lake erie by Cleveland..i love the handling of the 260 just need more speed now for the couple calm days we get lol and more power for the jumping...thanks, also anybody got a good list of mods to get these things in the 78+

There are several threads that discuss your first question. You can use the search tool to find them. As far as the GP1800, look for Jerry's build thread, it has great detail, parts, and speed numbers.

If you're after jumping, i would suggest the 1996 seadoo xp. It's not very fast, but it is really fun and can get some serious air. There are all sorts of mods to make it quicker. Only weighs 400lbs vs the 800lb rxpx

If you're used to seadoo fit and finish, you will really struggle with the quality of the GP1800. I let go of the front bin door thinking it would just kind of gently close like the PX and it about chopped the sales guys hand off as it closed so hard.

But yah, that GP1800 does seem to be fast in the calm water for cheaper than a PX300 mod for mod. I've read they are a wet ride, which is easy to see why if you look at the design. I can run around on my PX even in fairly rough water and not get wet if I'm reasonably careful. Jumping and surf play is great fun on the PX300 far as I'm concerned I've had most all the top of the line older models and I sure wouldn't go back in time. I was torn as well about getting one but I can't get past all the little things I don't like. I'd love to ride one but it would have to nock my socks off for me to part with my PX's. If you already love the PX260 you will love thePX300 more.

Not sure if you saw my other post, but you're welcome to try out my GP1800 briefly when the weather breaks. I figure I can trust a GH member. I think you'll like it. A lot. I primarily ride inland lakes, but have spent my fair share of time on Lake Erie - I really don't think the chop would be excessive for the GP1800. I used to chase the ferry to Put-in-Bay on my GP1300r to launch myself as high as possible and never even had any problems on that

I was at the Cleveland boat show the other day too. All the yamahahas looked really cheap. Still using chrome accents and that ugly light gray color trim. The seadoo trixx looked nice.

On lake Erie good luck finding a ski that will handle that nasty chop.

What wouldn't a Kawasaki Ultra 310 be considered ... Just sayin since you ride that big lake chop that's like ocean riding...

I wouldn't be worried since there's absolutely nothing new about that ski. They used VXR hull, mind you with the updated nano 2 hull material, and stuck the SVHO powerplant into it.

No new tech in that ski to worry about unlike Doo 300 where it had a bunch of new/updated items.

I would disagree. I would not buy the first model year. Take the GTR for instance. It was a GTI hull and a 215 engine been around for years..but putting them together was a first in 2012. There were some issues with it.

I love the deep footwells of the seadoos, yamahas are shallow as hell water would just come right over the bow and into your feet, also nothing beats the t3's seat imo, rxp 260 or 300 feel like you're a part of the machine, like you're sitting in it instead of on top of it like the Yamahas
                      When in doubt throttle out

GP1800 is the best ski in all conditions. Its the fastest all around and turns just as well as the T3 but lacks the seat benefit aspect. I raced the 300PX all last year in P1 Aqua X (offshore endurance) and it just cant ride the rough like the Yamahas for 30 minutes. I also raced my 300 on the Prowatercross tour (stock box class) and won 1 world championship but it was hard to hold off the FZR's that are properly setup. I have the GP, a 450hp T3 RXPX, a Stock 300 PX, and a FX SVHO. The FX is my new primary offshore ski but with some more time with Dean and dialing in the GP, its just almost unbeatable and thats hard for a seadoo guy to say..

If you rec ride then its more of toss up but GP will still be the the top ski all around unless you want the Ergo seat.. Having said all that, cue the all the internet heros to reign in and say that Im an idiot and dont know anything lol..

The GP is best in all conditions? How can it be a better offshore ski than the FX? I've ridden my GP twice on rough days 2'+ chop and it wasn't bad to me but surely it can't be the best at it. I cant imagine anything turning much better than it. I've never rode a RXPX but I'd love to try one.

They're all the same speed stock but the GP1800 is faster than a 260 or 300 mod for mod with more potential. I've noticed a few RXPX guys say "there's more to a ski than going fast in a straight line" but let's be honest if you see another ski out on the water you'll probably line them up at some point and personally I'd like to have the faster one.

I like the RIDE system for maneuvering and it slows you down fast enough if you need to but whoever said you can use it to help you corner going into a turn is full of shit.

What are the water conditions like in these offshore races open swells or washer machine? How big?
