  • Never ending money pit 06 RXT

So I picked up a super cheap 2006 RXT a few weeks ago, that the owner said wouldn't run at top speed. He thought it was a corrosion in the wiring harness, as it is a salt water ski. I took it home and started doing some diagnostic work on it, and found the TOPS fuse and gauge cluster are tied together. Gauge cluster was is totally trashed, cracked and had water in it, and probably shorted it out. I replaced the fuse and its been fine since.

Fast forward, too much reading on here and facebook had me doing lots of preventive maintenance. First, I replaced all the valves to get rid of the dreaded 72 valves along with ARP headstuds. I also pulled the motor and did ARP flywheel bolts.

Well I'm good friends with mittens on this forum, he has had a couple of built skis, and I also can't leave stuff well enough alone, so que the downhill mod spiral.

    So far I have ordered:
    ARP headstuds and flywheel bolts
    New valves and springs
    4" intake
    free flow exhaust
    opas block off
    2* pump wedge
    15/20r impeller
    used X charger
    42 lbs injectors

My X charger showed up "needing a rebuild" but what wasn't mentioned was it had a bearing failure and a touch down of the impeller wheel. The front housing is pretty cheap, and I'm trying to figure out what to do about a wheel. I could go bigger wheel, but then its probably needing a better intercooler than the stock 215, bigger injectors, and a tune. Ideally I'd like to find someone's pull off factory wheel that they would sell me cheap just to get the x charger going.

Also I ordered my 42 lbs injectors, that were suppose to genuine bosch from a reputable vendor and paid full retail price. However they showed up as china knockoffs, so still trying to get that squared away. I should have just bought them from the store here, I know.

I am curious if anyone has ran the XX wheel (137+4) with the factory 215 intercooler, or if y'all think I can get away with it with the 42's. Obviously don't want to blow the ski up running it lean.

Yeah I didn't think it was. What to do, what to do. I found the front cover is pretty cheap to replace.

You have to replace the whole thing.

ummm....front cover, wheel, and a rebuild kit and its good to go? Not sure why I would have to replace the whole thing?

If there is something I'm missing, please let me know, but with a rebuild kit, a new front cover, and a new wheel, basically the only part getting reused is the back housing? What is your reasoning for thinking that cannot be reused?

Front cover, wheel and rebuild kit and you're set.

It might be more economical to actually buy a low hour, if you can trust the seller, complete supercharger. But, nothing wrong with just rebuilding that one if you decide to do it.

Nice, I think I'm just going to rebuild what I have, that way I know its fresh and good.
