  • Quote of $1200 for impeller install

Ok I have contacted my dealer to replace my impeller with a high altitude one. They quoted me $1200 for wear ring, impeller and impeller assembly?
Is this a scam or a decent price ?

Edit: just impeller, wear ring and new seal.

Impeller assembly? Are they replacing your jet pump or something? That price is out there.

ThatÔÇÖs what I questioned he said and I quote the fins you see in the pump.

Maybe heÔÇÖs referring to the impeller the wear ring and new seal? But this seems really steep.

IÔÇÖm thinking I should shop around more ? This is why I hate dealers the incredibly stupid prices. Do they need to replace the seal I mean I have 12 hours on it.

Maybe they are referring to the pump support, that has fins on it. Then yes, $1200

New impeller from BRP is approx $450 and wear ring $75 lets be generous and round it up to $600 total for parts. Someone working at the dealer should know what they are doing and be able to complete this swap in an hour or less.

Get them to give you the exact list of parts that are being replaced. This sounds way over what a simple wear ring and impeller swap should cost.

Oh they also quoted replacing the carbon seal I guess.

Oh, so another $100 in parts, starting to add up in labor costs since removing the drive shaft means they'll have to remove a bunch of stuff from inside the hull to get to it.

What's the reason for changing the carbon seal on a new ski?

My thoughts exactly they said theyÔÇÖre in there they might as well replace it. IÔÇÖm like ummmm IÔÇÖll get back to yÔÇÖall. ThatÔÇÖs why IÔÇÖm part of this forum I donÔÇÖt trust dealers.

Sounds like a 'stealership' to me! I'd be looking for someone else to change the impeller or just change it yourself. Swapping impellers is quite easy and shouldn't take long.

Time to DIY. It’s not that hard. I can’t see the carbon seal needing replaced on a 1 year old ski unless the engine is misaligned or the thing gets ran dry on the trailer a bunch
