  • Gas spill staining Seadoo mirrors. How has this been an issue for 10+ years now?

I've had Seadoos for over 10 years, and every time a little drop of gas gets on the black mirrors, its fades them horribly. This doesn't happen on any other part of the body paint if gas is spilled, just the mirrors -- which happen to be placed right next to the gas cap of course.

What is going on with this issue? I presume this isn't a warranty issue, since I'm supposed to prevent a nozzel from occasionally dripping or pouring from a 5 gallon jug to never drip.

Eta: this is my brand new 2023 rxpx

Are you in the seadoo 4tec performance section of the forum? Maybe try asking in the Seadoo Open discussion section.. Personally, 10 years is really old for a pwc.

This is a brand new 2023 RXPX 300. Happened literally the first fill up, but this has been an issue on my 2021, 2018, 2015, and 2014 rxpx’s as well.

A lot of plastics do not like gasoline, you just need to be careful when filling. The mirror cover is not expensive to replace, you can buy the piece and do it yourself.

I'm with you on this. SeaDoo shouldn't use cheap shit that can't take a gas spill even once. Before I bought some covers & watched it happen again I would see if I could get a paint shop to put a nice urethane on them & be done with it. RR

Damn, that's some cheapa$$ stuff. I have some $2 black spray paint that holds up better than that! I can't say I'm surprised though. I've seen the prices on new skis creep up every year while the quality keeps going down. Just look at their revenue and profit reports for the last 5 years.......has your net income grown like that? NOPE. But as long as there are still buyers the quality will continue downward.....it's the way of big business.

Yeah sea doo is using some pretty poor plastics on their skis. Pretty much all my black plastic is garbage after year 1. Given i do ride alot but it still stored under one of their covers. Bumpers and the ladder are the worst, ladder especially if its hot out(coastal so cal, so gets hot but not crazy hot) will just melt and if you touch it, you got black rubber/plastic all over your hands.

Got a 2008 TX made in Canada. Has only 170 or so hours on the clock but 10 times that out in the sun. Has had gas spilled on it, sunscreen, beer, liquor, & everything else you can think of. Plastic & gelcoat still near perfect. Even the seats. New stuff is garbage. RR

New stuff for sure has issue’s, but the ride is far superior to the old. Period!

RR, most of our skis since 2018 are made of plastic materials that are ruined by gasoline. CM Shit, um Tech has an acrylic finish that is dulled immediately when exposed to gas. It's pathetic that something powered by gas is ruined by gas. The color layer in CM will fade when exposed to UV, but the fading can not be buffed out like gelcoat. It's lighter than Gel, but vastly inferior.
