Impeller change question

Can you use an impact gun to change the impeller? It would seem like it should work but would it hurt the splines? I'm not a mechanical engineer so I'm not sure about this one. We need to use an impact gun for the flywheel on our husky chainsaws (left handed thread) and it works great as opposed to yanking with a breaker bar. I'm wondering if everyone thinks this is crazy or stupid?

Manual says no to using an impact on the impeller.

Breaker bar 1/2" with a piece of pipe to extend length. A good vice. Then lots of ass.
