  • 2013 RXT-X260 GRF Turbo Rec Ski

Its been a year since removing the engine from my 2008 RXT-X255 for some upgrades. But then a good deal caught my eye and I bought Chet LS3's RXT-X260 last summer. His ski was stock except for a Kicker sound system. Upgrading to a turbo was not part of the initial plan, however, I was soon in contact with Evan, and things have not been the same since!

This past fall I rode the 2013 TX in its stock configuration.....approximately 67 mph at 7900 rpm on a very warm and humid day. Later, I added the M130 with the 8350 tune to the completely stock ski. For those who know Lake Conroe, its nearly impossible to find flat water. Still, this ski went 72.3 at 8220 rpm on a full tank of Shell 93 octane fuel.

The engine has the usual stuff:
8.4:1, 1st oversize CP pistons (coated), Carillo rods
    SuperTech valves, springs, retainers, keepers
    lightened/polished crank (by Falicon)
Head: pocket ported/decked, stock head gasket
Block: decked and block guard added
    ARP Head Studs (GHPPS)
New bearings, new oil pumps, new cam chain/guides
    1" exhaust spacer (GHPPS)
Riva Open Loop Cooling Kit (GHPPS)
    stock exhaust manifold w/bell removed
    Stock intake manifold/modified
    Rhaas engine mounts
Engine built by Richard & Greg Patterson of WFO Performance.

The GRF turbo is the Borg Warner 67/58 with watercooled exhaust housing & up/down pipes. The turbo will use a new Intercooler and will need a new bracket fab'd up as well as the charge piping. The exhaust is a Riva 3.5" outlet, exiting on the left side. A waterbox will not be used.
BW Turbo by Evan Kassing of GRF Turbo.

A MoTeC M130 will handle the fuel/ignition duties and I2 Standard data-logging monitors 3 O2 sensors via 1 LTCD and 1 LTC: 1 wide band O2 sensor for each cylinder. MoTeC M130 tuning by Nils Castillo of Castillo Motorsports.

ARP Head Studs, Riva Stainless Steel wear ring, Riva Open Loop Cooling Kit and RAD4 1" exhaust Spacer purchased thru GreenHulk Performance Parts Store (GHPPS). Thank you Jerry!

AmsOil 30W break in oil for first 10 hours (no fiction modifiers) then switched to AmsOil 15W50 Racing oil.

The engine was removed a couple of weeks ago and my 2008 TX engine installed.....didn't even need to remove the tilt seat! Before the engine install, a couple of items needed attention: Cleaning and correct the thru hull fitting to transom alignment.

Thru hull/transom alignment.......to center up the thru hull fitting this required trimming 4 high spots on the fitting and elongating the holes, attaching the alignment plate to pump support, a plug in the thru hull fitting, and the alignment shaft. I did not need to trim off the part that's inserted into thru the hull opening. I used the "Right Stuff" to glue it to the hull. The engine alignment tools were used to center the fitting in the thru hull opening, left in place, then the fitting bolted in, and let setup overnight.

I have heard bob that the pto housing may be different from the 08 to the 12 with the oil filter in a slightly different position to allow for the fbw tb. You have both in front of you, you may be able to tell us if this is correct.....

                Are you done yet??????

Steve....you are correct! There are at least 2 differences between the 2008 PTO cover and the 2013 PTO cover. The obvious difference is here:

The next isn't so obvious.......the oil filter housing is now about 1/2" more rearward on the 2013 PTO cover compared to the 2008 PTO cover.

The engine pic in the hull is the 2008 engine/PTO cover. Compare the Thermostat housing to PTO cover mounting points. This shot also identifies the problem area.....namely the Throttlebody positioning.

The TB must be rotated 90* (clockwise) in order to install the intake manifold when using the 2008 PTO cover and the fbw TB.

Yeah, I should've used that cover but was told I would need to change the stator, rotor, and who knows what else, so I used the old cover.

I don't know what anti-corrosion oil Chet used but it works extremely well. I scrubbed and scrubbed using PurplePower and a brush and it cleaned some of the crud away but I ended up using a scotchbrite pad and rags to finish the job. I thought someone was going to call DOT for a hazmat call out!
