  • Thanks for the reply. My plan is to change the oil after the break-in period just like I did on my car and motorcycle.

I'm curious if other sea-doo owners are being told to bring it in at 10 hours for oil-change/inspection when the manual says the first oil change is 50 hours.

    • I forgot to do step 9, I change my oil at the start of every season cuz I only but on 10-20 hrs a year. I got 3q out. Should I change again or should I be fine. It's a 2010 gti 130

I'm no expert...but as long as you put 3q back in...you are good. Sure you didn't get every last drop of "old" oil out....but I wouldn't worry about it.

FYI. I just changed my oil...I only got about 3.5q out when I did step 9 three times. Write up to follow....

        • So. I changed the oil in my 2 x 2015 Sea-Doo's today (GTI SE 155 & GTX 155) and I came across two things I wanted to post about.

          1. I could only stomach turning the engine over three times to get oil out. Call me old fashioned...but I just can't crank a motor when it has "no" oil in it. Having said that...I did get quite a bit of oil out on the second try. The third try got very little oil out...so I will stop at three tries in the future.

          2. Where the checklist looked different to me was when I tried to get the oil filter cap off. Instead of the bolt coming out and leaving the filter in....the bolt unscrewed from the engine and came out in one piece with the filter(Pictures on right). I had to use a 13mm wrench on the nut to take it apart so I could get the filter off (On left with new filer). Not sure if this is a change that occurred on one of the model years and just hasn't been update or if I just managed to screw this up...

Pictures below (assuming I can make this work right...).

          • Changed mine for the first time today after skimming over this thread. Thank to all for the info. (07rxp)
i used 3 quarts of Mobil 1 full synthetic racing 4-t that Is jaso ma rated. Also Used about half of a quart of rotella t6 5-40 full synthetic that also says it meets the jaso rating.
tokk it out for about a 15mile test and it ran just fine. Couldn't detect any lack of boost and it turned in the usual rpm summertime range (8100). It is bone stock.

                • Just finished a season and used the after market oil filters on ebay. Tried the red K&N one and the orange Hi Flo both seemed fine no deformation of the filter. As for trapping particles is one better than the other or stick with the Seadoo brp brand oil filter?
I used the Procedure Here full write up and video of Oil Filter change out. I always replace all the O-Rings as well.

                  • Guys I did my first oil change yesterday and all went well except the oil filter cover. After screwing it down it left a slight gap.
                    Is this normal?

                    • Sorry if I missed where my question was answered in the last 28 pages lol but I have a 2002 GTX 4-Tec and I am putting in a used replacement engine and cant find how many quarts to put into a completely empty engine and what to use for oil. I see that a normal oril change is between 3.5 and 4 quarts. The only thing I really see thats a common is the use of a marine grade 10w40. So would I use a full Syn or a Syn blend? Thanks!

                      • Bumping...

For the record, suctioned 4qts exactly using the steps outlined and put 4 back in... dead middle of the bends!

Did the procedure describe here and ended up having too much oil. Got 4 qts in and I'm way over the full line... any hints?

Btw removed more than 4.5qts almost 5...

Hey espritv8, did you start the machine on a hose for just a minute, shut it off and give a minute or two before checking the oil level?

reason I ask is my manual specifies you’ll get a false reading unless you do so ...

Yep I did. I'm suspecting I've sucessfully removed all the oil from the engine, but that the new oil doesn't reach all the compartments... Is that possible? Only got 4quarts in!!

Also I did leave the suction tube in place when cranking the engine... read after that it was not a good idea. Did I mess up something there too?

                              • Well, congratulations on getting as much as possible (always a moving target for me and a reason I tend to change my oil more frequently than some other owners do) and, it sounds like you got off easy as far as cranking any engine with a plastic straw inserted down into the oil dipstick tube (bet you won’t do it again and that is what matters <grin>)

if you ran the engine for 30 seconds to a minute then, I am confident oil went all the places it possibly could. I would make sure the engine is LEVEL, Run it again for a minute, check it again and, if it still reads above the “full” line I’d extract wee just enough to get the oil level between the “Low” and “Full” indicator marks. Again, that is with the engine level ...
