  • How to tell the difference between 03, 04-05 and 06-07 supercharger clutch

These pics should help you out

Please note, the 03 clutch assembly did not use any washers at all. The gear just rode against the lock washer and distance sleve.

TO clarify these pics the 04-05 clutch retainer does not touch all the way around the washer but the 06-07 does!!

good to know as I bought a new set before my SC went boom. I at least can use the spring washers for the new 06 SC down the road.

Quick question, are the pics a stock clutch or the metal washers. I pulled mine from a 05 RXP and they look just like your pic. Thanks for all the info this is a great site.

Just wondering, what was wrong with the 03 clutch design. It seemed like there were no washers to explode then.

They slipped early and burnt out.

With washers you have 4 friction surfaces (each side of the two washers)

So basically it was a way of allowing longer periods of time between rebuilds? It just so happened that they picked the wrong washer material at first correct?

Yep that is correct. I'd say the ceramic washers was a bad choice in material

Hmmmm....lil bit confused, I just bought the steel washers and had them installed on my 03 GTX SC about 2 weeks ago, was this a smart thing to do considering they didn't even have washers to begin with??? I was at around 9-9.5 lbs on the slip test w/ the torque wrench and we just added the washers.
