  • ** Here is Info on the 2009 Seadoo Technical Updates **

I've usually done some type of thread in the past jotting down some of the more obvious / critical changes BRP made to their watercraft line-up... So here's what I picked out to be the most interesting or things worth typing... Alot of things are usually just quality control, improved part, more mechanic friendly, or manufacturing changes. Some things are just BRP doing their homework and fixing what they know could be better. They've always done a great job at improving parts in the past in my opinion, this year looks to be no different.

So here's what I got that are the differences between 2008 - 2009 Seadoo 4-tec Watercraft
    • New fuel rail assembly for quality purposes, adaptable to all previous years.
    • New Oil filter cover.. THIS I LIKE! ... quality reasons and ease of removal. Now when you remove the bolt, it also cranks the cover out of the housing as you remove the bolt. No more trying to pry it out or wiggle it and fight with the tight space to get it out. adaptable to all previous years.
    • New supercharger drive gear for quality improvement, adaptable to all previous years.
    • New formed Supercharger hose that goes from SC to TB for better quality and easier installation
    • New Ball bearings and bellow assembly on the back of the PTO cover that the driveshaft slides into. The inner race of the bearing is now PART OF the floating ring.. yes, scratch your head on that one... this is because of the NEW driveshaft design (see further down page)
    • Engines --> 130, 155, 215 SCIC (supercharged Intercooled), 255 HP High Output, 255 HP HO ETC (High Output electronic throttle control) ... the 255 HO ETC is the same as 255 (the X skis) in every way EXCEPT that the ETC has fly by wire throttle body (no cable) due to cruise control system, it uses a BOSCH ecm rather than siemens like all other skis, and uses upgraded fuel rail and injectors.
    • 255 HO ETC Engine gets a new throttle body design . shaft is horizontal rather than vertical and no more lube fittings needed. all this again due to electronic fly by wire throttle system
    • FUEL INJECTORS... seadoo uses 4 different injectors in these 4 categories... 130/155 --- 185/215 ---- 255 ---- 255 ETC (with different fuel rail and injector clips for new fuel rail design)
    • New battery box tray carrying system, nothing crazy
    • NEW ALUMINUM DIE-CAST PUMP used in entire 2009 Line-up - improved part... also they came out with New Impeller shaft design, and a new impeller nose cone. adaptable to all previous years BUT BUT BUT you can't mix and match old/new impellers with old/new impeller shafts
    • Wear ring colors... BLUE wear ring = 130HP -- WHITE is 215HP -- 255 is black (i'm not 100% sure this part isn't a typo) ... so take it with grain of salt for now
    • there's a new pump cone... the one on back of pump with grease on it. there's a molded index mark in it, and the cone can only go on one way as indicated, bolt holes are NOT symmetrical. and the new cone has prying points to remove it. WILL NOT fit on previous versions of jet pumps, only on the new jetpump housing
    • the props and prop shafts are all sorts of different and changed... gonna have to use caution in future to not mix up pumps and shafts and props due to the way it all seals, uses grooves with o-rings, and the way the new driveshaft design is with the integrated inner race pto bearing/floating ring piece.
    • THE DRIVESHAFT - is now CARBON steel that is over molded with a rubberized coating. there's a non-replaceable SS sleeve on the prop side where the impeller boot rides. as mentioned, the inner race to the PTO bearing is incorporated into the floating ring, and the driveshaft THREADS into the floating ring/inner race. the floating ring has a counter bore that mates with the tapered shoulder on the driveshaft and when everyhting is torqued properly oil and water is sealed.

OBVIOUSLY, there are HUGE new things for 2009 with the iS models.. which Jerry has covered many months ago. I'm not going into all that. Go on seadoos website, read about them, learn. they have videos on their site about all the new technology that are self explanatory..

    GPS Speedomer integrated into gauges
    Suspension
    Brakes
Cruise controller Intelligent throttle control system
slow speed mode / docking mode
NO MORE OPAS on iS models with new hull, they use OTAS (like the sport boats) off throttle assisted steering, like other mfgs, kick the rpms up in a tight turn when no throttle is applied.
    and SOOO much more.

tons of stuff on the iS models, nothing to compare to last year models like the above-mentioned list, but lots of new modules and technologies and stuff going on inside those iS models.

That's all i got for you guys that i picked out that would be of interest.. i dont think u care about petty crap like a new exhaust outlet elbow for the resonator or a new mounting plate for wires or other BS of no importance

    Thanks!

+1 Shibby great infromation. Is it time to consider selling/trading the old 06 RXP, has it advanced that far? Would I be disappointed with the new ones?

with the way resale prices are in the used market lately... and with the prices of new units only increasing each year.. by the time u pay tax and registration... i'd keep what u got personally if ur sitting on an 06 right now bud... i dont see anything that warrants u getting rid of yours... unless you have an 06 with really really high hours that's out of warranty?

By God I think you are 100% correct. I still have a year of warranty and with this crappy economy, why go out on a limb for a new one that performance wise probably isn't all that much better. Crappy economy................Re: That's why I'm in Room 201 in Texas instead of NC. I miss the water already, but I think Skeopp might hook me up with some West Texas rides.
