  • Sucked Up a Rock - Repair Time

I have a brand new 2015 SeaDoo GTI 130 with 1 hour on it. Someone took it out without my knowledge or permission and sucked up a rock! I am not a happy camper right now to say the least. They are paying for the repairs but I am curious what to expect when I bring it into the dealer?

I am sure it will be $1000.00 or more to fix but more importantly how long will my ski be out of commission for? Do these types of fixes take a long time assuming the parts are in stock. What kind of parts am I looking at having to replace? There is a rock wedged in the impeller because I can see it in there. Just won't come out.

I am new to the whole PWC so you will have to excuse my ignorance on the whole matter.

Cheers and thanks in advance for the info.

I can't say on the repair or time from. I'm more curious how someone took it out without your permission.

yep, wear ring for sure, impeller work, or replacement

new impeller & ring + labor is prolly 7-800$ maybe 1G.

if you're lucky, they'll be able to dress the current impeller.

...and who do you hang around with that does NOT have enough respect for you, and your things, that they'd take your shit without asking? total disrespect, right there.
...payin the bill or not, there may be some trash to be taken to the curb.

Maybe its just cuz I'm an old fart...

I brought the machine to my parents cottage and left it there for the week because I was coming back the following weekend. I told my father its not to be used on the river because the water is low and there are sandbars with rocks. Its to be used on the lake or ocean only. So what did my father do....took my machine without telling me and used it on the river. Went over a sandbar which was only knee deep and sucked up a rock! I only had the machine out one time for an hour! It wasn't a pretty conversation when I was told.

And even better...we took the boat and motor up the river earlier that day and beat up the prop on the motor from striking bottom a few times because the water is low. So he decided to take the seadoo because it draws less water and thought he could get up there faster.

Where did you come up with those numbers? They are very high! Wear ring is $70.00, impeller is about $330.00 and labor should be no more than 2 hours. It should be roughly $600.00 assuming the impeller needs to be replaced

If there is a scratch on the impeller its being replaced...since I am not paying for it! So I will assume the impeller is being replaced as well.

A scratch lol. That impeller will get more than a scratch over time, I dont care how carefull you are your going to suck shit up as your cruising around. Eventually the impeller will have to get sent out to be reconditioned. There could have been very minimal damage that was done, you may not have to have anything repaired. If the ski is performing normal just keep driving it.

Keep your old one for a backup/spare.

If I did the damage, I wouldn't care about a scratch. lol. However, since someone else did it after me specifically saying not to use it...the impeller is going to be new after the repair. Its more about principle now think!

I told him its going to be 1K to fix it. I just hope there is not more damage.

Thanks for all the input...now when I go to the repair guy I can throw out terms like wear ring and impeller so maybe I wont get taken advantage of!

Yeahhh! Stick it to your father! That prick!

If it doesn't need replacement why waste money regardless of who's it is.

Like others have said, you're going to suck up something at one point or another and get a "scratch" if there's no serious gouges or damage ride it and keep your keys on you if you can't trust others to not touch your machine.

If it was me I would get smarter about the machine and get a Shop Manual here: www.brpmanuals.com.

This WILL happen again, be it a piece of trash, a hat, a stick, whatever. You should learn how to remove the pump, replace and remove the impeller and wear ring. A wear ring is $60 for a OEM plastic one and a stainless steel one is $100 at Impros. A Solas impeller is $300-330.

Save your old man some embarrassment, some money, and learn how to do this your self with 2 hours of down time!

I would be royally upset as well but its just a material thing and if he is covering the cost then i wouldnt get too upset. I'm sure his intentions werent bad

See if you can find someone who knows how to replace it. Buy a new wear ring......it's probably one of the easiest repair/maintenance jobs to do on a ski from everything I have seen and read. About the equivalent of changing a tire on a car as long as you don't have ibr. Offer them a few bucks to show/help you how to do it and then you will never have to worry about paying the dealer again for this and then you will know how to do it in the future.

Also a number of how to videos on youtube. This one if from a member here:

hmmmmmmmmmmm, yeah; that would be about THE only exception: mom or dad. Never woulda thunk it'd have been them though.
                              Thats a head-scratcher, for sure.

...and you might wanna consider just sucking it up. It is your parents, after all.
(JEEEZZZ!!! what an 'about-face' from me, eh?)
how much did you screw up that they made right? ...just sayin.

I got those 'high prices' cuz I usually get bent over at the stealers, when i have to go.

ONLY time I didn't get reamed was at JET THRUST PERFORMANCE in Lawrenceville, Ga.

anywho, do what you must; just take it easy on your old man...
this is comin from an old man though.
