  • Can-Am (BRP) Motorcycles are Back

For those of you old enough to remember, Can-Am was a big player in the motorcycle world in the 70s.
They used Rotax/Bombardier engines. Now after 36 years, they are back in the market, although with a very different "motor". Can-Am bought the intellectual properties and patents of electric motorcycle maker, Alta. Rotax will build the electric motors. The units will be manufactured in the Mexican BRP factory. Maybe Mex-Am would be more accurate.

Europe right now has limitations on electrical power generation due to the war and related problems with natural gas supply. Electric car charging is only one aspect of what is being done to reduce loading across the electricity grid.

Depending on the country in Europe there are/will also be restrictions on natural gas consumption, especially for industrial use.

The US situation with electricity vs. gasoline and diesel fuel pricing is quite different from Europe. This winter is going to be difficult for much of Europe, especially the portions which will endure full-on winter cold.

It all depends on what direction the wind is blowing in Europe. In the UK it is presently more expensive to operate your EV than either gas or diesel, if you do not charge the EV from home. They also have annual fees for installing an EV charger at your home.

That region has a shortage of pipeline capacity for natural gas, IIRC.

(P&GJ) — The energy crisis gripping Europe has highlighted the dangers of unreliable imports and a rushed transition to renewables. The U.S. Northeast could soon face similar reliability issues as well, New England’s grid operator and a group of industry associations warned federal regulators.

That regional shortfall during winter heating season is filled using (rather expensive) LNG tanker ship transport, which involves specific rules regarding the ship and crew. Also, the LNG cargo is priced against current international (especially Europe) demand and pricing, which is quite strong.

Across the US and Canada large scale demand for natural gas has risen in partial response to international exports, which reflects into the ÔÇÿregionalÔÇÖ pricing we see more locally.

Any energy pricing which is exposed to influence from the demand of international markets is going to fluctuate and generally trend towards ÔÇÿmore expensiveÔÇÖ.

So true. The enviro weenies keep suing to keep any new capacity pipelines from being built around here.
