  • common first question : sea doo gti 90/130 vs Yamaha ex sport

Hi guys, Andy from Italy, I'm new into this and I'm looking for my first PWC ( used) to buy...
Im not sure this is the right section but anyway.. I like both of the models, Yamaha seems to be more reliable than sea doo but Im a bit worried about the size.. I'm 6.3ft and 200 lbs, is the seadoo bigger then the yamaha, or its not a big difference?!
About the usage, It'll be mostly on the lake, just a few times on the sea, max 2 people, not long range

any advice is good for a newbie

    thanks

    Andy

Depending on the year, the Yamaha maybe the heavier and slower of them all.

I have no experience with Yamaha so can't comment there.

If you're looking at a SeaDoo GTI model get the 130 or 155 nothing wrong with the 90 other than it's utterly gutless the GTI hull is too big for 90hp IMHO. A friend bought one for his wife and kids to play with at the lake house I rode it last summer and could hit a whopping 60 Kph with just me at about 230lbs. I have a 300 so I'm a little spoiled with an abundance of power but this GTI 90 was terrible I have ridden a GTI 130 and 155 these were not arm stretching performance machines but you could easily have some fun on them and cruise at a decent speed. The other consideration is resale I think a 130 or 155 would be easier to sell if you decide to upgrade in the future.

The one easy thing I can say is try them both. I know it takes a bit more effort and you may lose out on a deal while you wait to try all the different models you are looking at but it's worth it. My family did just that and we ended up with a bunch of Spark TRIXX machines and one 300TX. The important part is that everyone is happy.

I would definitely get an EX. The EX will be a lot more fun for playing around on a lake because of its smaller size. I would strongly consider a Jetblaster or a used EXR; these two are based on the EX but lighter and more performance oriented. My dad is 6'3"/240 pounds and I am 5'10"/150 pounds and we had no issue playing around on the Jetblaster with both of us on it for the Yamaha press intro. Another pro for the Yamaha is the hull isn't made out of plastic like the Sea-Doo GTI.

Overall, I think you will have more fun on the Yamaha EX/EXR/Jetblaster for short distance rides on a lake. It is a more nimble machine, plenty of power for its size, and has a well designed hull for both cruising and more aggressive riding.

            Welcome aboard, Andy!

The first thing to consider is availability of parts and service in your country. No matter what brand you get, you're going to need parts and service eventually.

Have you looked at the Kawasakis? The STX and the larger Ultra LX (both non-supercharged) are great machines. The STX is lighter, faster, and more nimble of the two. The Ultra LX is large, exceptionally stable, and is an excellent choice for the ocean.

'10 Kawi Ultra LX, '13 Kawi Ultra LX, '13 Kawi Ultra LX parts 'Ski
            '04 Kawi STX 15-F, '06 STX 15-F (2)

            '78 Nacra 5.2 Catamaran
            '05 Windrider WR-10 Trimaran, '05 Windrider WR-16 Trimaran
... and that's just the boats! I'm living proof that you can have too many toys!
