  • Sluggish Ski, Low Top speed, & Low RPM.

I'm new the the forum, so I apologize if this has been addressed before.

This season my ski seems very sluggish coming out of the hole. My top speed is roughly 36mph and I'm maxing out at about 5600 rpm. It feels like something is holding the ski back all the way through the rpm range. (1500 rpm idle, all the way up to 5600rpm)

So far I have replaced the wear ring.
Ive checked the intake grate for foreign objects.
The impeller had a few little nicks in it, but I filed them down smooth.
I've replaced the spark plugs, and drained the gas completely and filled up with 100% gas.

What am I missing? I plan on doing a compression test next, but I'm not sure what kind of compression I should be getting.

My ski is a 2014 3up and currently has 70 hours on it.

No error codes? It sounds more like a limp mode or something? Did it just happen suddenly or did it come gradually?

Nah, doesn't really fit this description:

"Limp Home Mode. When a major component of the EMS is not operatingproperly, limp home mode will be set. Enginespeed (RPM) will be limited and therefore vehiclespeed. This mode allows the rider to return to shorewhich would otherwise not be possible withoutthis advanced system. When this mode is active, the CHECK ENGINE indicatorwill come on and a LIMP HOME messagewill be displayed in the multifunction gauge.Major Fault and Vehicle Reaction. The following EMS conditions will trigger a limphome mode.ENGINE PROBLEM, MAX ALLOWEDRPM: High engine temperature(from 100??C (212??F)) 3800rpm. High exhaust temperature(from 95??C (203??F)) 3800rpm. Low oil pressure(below 150 kPa ?? 20 kPa(21.76 PSI ?? 2.9 PSI))4500rpm.

        No, it came on gradually.
I’ve also taken the injectors out and cleaned them with injector cleaner. I did notice one coil pack looked a little burnt than the others. I should be receiving a new coil pack in a few days.

Is there anything else I should check once I take the top off again?

Also, the ski will hit the rev limiter off the trailer. But it seems like it takes a little while to get to 8k rpm.

Could the impeller be rubbing on the wear ring?

did you ever solve this issue? Was it the coil pack? I’m having similar issues and can’t figure it out.

@Duhkodak Was there a resolution to this problem? Please come back and let us know what the fix was. I have almost the same symptoms. Anyone else with ideas?

              Thanks,

FOLLOW UP | I had a similar issue and we found the problem...

Symptoms: 2018 Sea doo Spark Trixx | Spark slowing down and top speed of 35 MPH.

Diagnosis Steps: Changed plugs/oil, checked ribbon for debris. Checked exhaust for depris/animals. Swapped jet with another spark. Checked for codes. None of this made a difference.

Actual Problem: The exhaust waterbox had a crack that was about 7 inches long. that crack caused the exhaust to fill into the inside of the jetski and the lack of oxygen caused the intake to suck in less oxygen and the engine couldn't get enough fresh air to run properly. We removed the waterbox and inspected for cracks. There was one around the intake of the waterbox (connected to the manifold). We took it out and had it welded. Reinstalled and the Sea Doo Trixx has full power again.
