Ironically, I just fixed this on mine yesterday. I noticed that if I wiggled the connector on the back is the fuel gauge, it would work. So I took the gauge out and cut the back off. That exposed the circuit board. Then I pulled the whole insides out and resoldered the connection and pins.
After putting it back together, I also cleaned the plug terminals on the gauge and wire with brake clean.
it works great now!
