  • Replacement For 3M 5200?

3M 5200 is a well known polyurethane adhesive-sealant that holds up to water well and is strong & flexible. It is expensive and getting harder to locate.

I was in Walmart today and saw a new polyurethane adhesive-sealant for under $10. (My last tube of 5200 was over $20 and I had to buy it online).

The new stuff is sold by Star-Brite:

I have not tried it, yet.

4200 is good as well or sikaflex depending on the application

4200 is silicon and isn't rated for continuous immersion in water. 5200 is polyurethane and is rated for continuous immersion. 5200 is very hard to remove.

For sealing ride plates, jet pumps, etc., you do NOT want to use 5200.

I'll call the 5200 'semi-permanent'. You CAN remove the bonded part again but you're sure going to work at it. Great for installing a pump shoe, sealing through hull fittings, plugging old screw holes, etc. But ya, the Starbrite stuff is the same.

If you're replacing a pumpshoe, use the recommended Loktite 5900 per the shop manual (seadoo).
