Recommended Helmets / Types?

I have a 22 FX Limited and ride mostly open sea, hitting the max speed fairly regularly. I bought the ski instead of a motorbike (had a ZX6R when younger), figuring a PWC was safer, and now I have a family etc.

Anyway I am thinking I need a helmet.

I found some threads on Greenhulk from 2009, but am looking for more up to date info.

Obviously there are no jetski-specific helmets, so I guess most people use MX helmets?

Any specific brands/models/features that would make one MX helmet better suited for PWC than others?

Also, do people generally wear neck or back braces or anything like that?

Downhill mountain bike helmets are a good shout these days, i wear a Bell Transfer on the Fx. If you do a bit of standup rec skiing Fox proframe are good as they drain quickly and you dont feel like you are drowning

Thanks, picked up a Fox Proframe. They seem very light and I like the idea of the cut-outs.

The Trekker models from Fly Racing are well regarded in our group. The top bill portion is removed for PWC riding.

On the newer models (Trekker Pulse) there is a clear full face shield and an inner tinted lens. Both can be flipped up out of the way for open air riding.

In our group we have voice radios attached to each helmet so we can converse while riding. Cardo PackTalk Bold radio kits. Cardo recently transitioned to their PackTalk Edge series, which have similar helmet fitting kits.

Fitting the Cardo microphone and earpieces within the Trekker takes a bit of work but the result works well.

those GP1800r's are like going back in a time warp to 2008 and the blue GP1300r's absolutely stunning colour

We changed the factory GP1800 SVHO hood and mirror colours to match the hull and upper deck blue. Replaced the white trim it came with new to black and some blue.

My red GP1800 was changed in a similar manner, but the upper hood is grey.

Those Fly Racing Trekker helmets aren't too heavy? They seem to be able double the weight of the Fox Proframe.

The riders in our group that wear them during recreational rides wear them for hours.

Too heavy is relative. First few times riding with a helmet I suppose it is going to feel 'heavy' if all you had on your head before were sunglasses. Ride often enough with a comfortable helmet and it should become normal and not a burden.

Once our 1200R started going over 62… we bought him a helmet. It’s now fresh and last year went 69.1 GPS with a low cylinder. Thanks to WFO.. it’s 150 psi across the board.
