Great write up. Again, the prep work makes the finish!!!

      additional tips:
-when wet sanding and scuffing use the palm of your hand not your fingers to avoid pressure lines.
-along with the bucket, keep a spray bottle of water in your off-hand and spray often.
-clean and re-scuff the parts until there is NO shiney spots.
-before the primer, color and clear spray-coats use a tack cloth lightly to remove dust. (Lowe's paint isle)

I'm spoiled cause my buddy manages a shop with two spray booths and frames to wire the parts to. The prep is the same regardless of how you spray it. (If you do all the prep yourself a pro should be reasonable)

On the stuff that was too big to do myself, I did the prep myself and took it to Maaco and got great results.

Its not hard to lay the paint down smooth if all the prep work was done properly. Maaco did my conversion plastics. The sides, visor, and grab bar were all painted yellow, and the gauge bezel was painted black. Let me see if I can dig up a pic.

Here is another piece. I did the prep and took it to a shop. I wasnt going to mess with a tri-stage color.

Lamborghini Gallardo tri stage orange pearl. Sorry for the crappy iphone resolution.

I bet that looks slick in person as I know the iPhone doesn't do it justice. I can sorted see some of the pearl effect in the picture.

What you fellers did is awesome, because you persevered with massively thinned down products that are not really commercial products. And achieved a quality finish that is of a very high standard.
It just shows that we can do anything, all we have to do is research and attempt.

I checked into the spray cans and no local suppliers do urethane in a can. They say they cant because urethane must be catalyzed. Where did you guys find urethane in a can?

ok, I found a place that sells 2k paints in spray cans. It runs $22 per can and you supply the paint code and they send out cans mixed to your color. These are urethane paints with catalyst and are available in either base/clear or single-stage. They sell a few different catalyzed clears in aerosol as well. Though since they are mail order it would be difficult to get the paint you need without a paint code. I have an aversion to using non-catalyzed paints so this find makes me very happy.

They also claim that the design of the sprayer has a pattern more like found in a spray gun than typical aerosol cans. There is information available on the site.

Yep thats the same type of paint as what I used and I paid about the same price. The nice thing about having a local place that makes the paint is that they can scan it and duplicate the color...
You should ask body shops who makes their paint. Someone local to you must be able to do it.
