  • CRAZY IDEA IN PROGRESS - in water pwc trailer...

Ok, so ive checked with my local lakes and squared away the legalities... and am starting to put my plan into action...

We have stripped out an old GTX-Limited, removed the seat and made a lid, removed the handlebars, filled all the holes.. and made a trailer to take camping gear up river to a remote camp site....

here is my issue... I recall towing a pwc when the gas ran out... and it was impossible to keep it straight at speed....what would stop me from making a v shaped hitch that attaches to the back of my Yamaha, and then to the front of the trailer. keeping the nose nice and centered... what material would I need to use???

I was thinking about a fat tube rope with clips on the end, wrapped in a PVC tube on both sides... any reason something like this wouldn't work??? ive seen the tow bars for houseboats and what not... but im not paying a grand... ill make something myself...

Think about how the rig will handle waves and sudden drops of the lead hull.

Either use a long tow rope so the towable is in a stable zone of the wake or bring it up very close so the jet wash goes under the towed hull.

id rather have it closer to the back of my jet ski, if not attached somehow... I feel that this will keep it from swaying back and forth un controllably... attached with some type of solid support.

            How 'bout this one:

Kind of up there at $1599 + tax + freight from Minnesota. But maybe their design will give you an idea or two.

yeah that's what mine looks like... but seriously I have more storage just using a free shell of a ski.... I just need to figure out how to attach it...
I paid 800 for 2 gsx-L skiis... made one work, and using the hull out of the other... so basicly a free / no fucks given / backyard fabrication kinda thing....

the current config will hold a 12 person tent, a 8x10 shade, food box, 10 gals of gas, 5 gals of fresh water, an airbed, bedding, shoval, folding chairs, water ski, ropes, tool box, spare parts, and lanterns... still room for a small cooler.....

I remember seeing somebody "converting" their hydro trailer to that type of hook up. Most people will not drill into their PWC as the hydro trailer requires. Try doing a search.

Okay, I found it. Reverse one of these.

                        Some more info;

This guy attached the tow rig to the towable hull at two points on the sides, back from the bow. The point of the triangle rig is at the front and clips onto the tow hook of the lead watercraft.

Looks like the only trick is figuring out exactly how far back and how low on the towable hull to drill the hard attachment points.

Doh! My bad! I meant "use" one of these, not "reverse." Hook to the stern tie-downs on the ski and to the bow hook on the trailer.

for that kind of cash; one could purchase 2 hulls, cut the tops off, put one bottom on the other, hinge/seal it and build something for 1/2 that...

you could bolt a slolom ski skeg to the ride plate of the towed hull...this would keep it straight..or it seems plausable ??
