Using LT or P rated tires instead of ST trailer tires?

    I would bet that Boatmate is in the super minority with their choice of tires.

    It's nice that the this particular trailer manufacturer is ok with it and all... but I wonder what the tire manufacturer would have to say about P's for trailer use?

    Fwiw I shot a couple emails off to Michelin for guidance on the subject... so far crickets.

      I spoke to Boatmate. He said that they use the ST tires on 13 and 14 inch wheels because the buyers won't pay the higher cost of the P tires. He also said that there is a ST255/55/R18, but they don't use it on premium trailers for safety. They use V rated tires, 149mph rating. I checked pricing on them. The ST is half the price of the passenger 255/55R18. You guys still think the ST is the better tire?

      Michelin does not make ST tires, (that should tell you something), but their LT models are very popular with the Airstream crowd.
