  • Thinking of Doubling Up

I've read it ok to travel with one ski on a double trailer. I've had this idea for a while, with the price of Gasoline at $5/ Gallon, when it comes time for the boys and I to head North, instead of two trucks, two trailers, two tanks of gas, let me buy a double trailer. Cuts the price of everything in half. No Brainer.
I never really looked at a double trailer in depth, I'm thinking, can I shift the two middle bunks inside on a swing hinge using tempered pins to support them, and put one ski in the middle. May take a bit of Engineering, but I think I can make it work.
Let me know, what's your thoughts on this.

With a decent quality double trailer I doubt you would have any issues at all towing a double trailer with one PWC loaded onto one side. I have towed in that configuration several times, not a problem.

With any trailer the key is to make sure it is road ready. Tires are not aged beyond seven years, wheel bearings are greased and not worn. Winch straps, tie down straps, all bolt hardware, everything checked and serviced.

Rejigging a double PWC trailer just to position a single hull in the center means shifting not just the bunks but also the winch stand.

True, No winch. Could double up with the outer winches, but the would give the strap a offset angle.
Hey, it was kind of a fantasy. Anyway I think I will take the double trailer. It a short ride to our Friday launch, where we meet. If the tides are right , we spend the day on a Sandbar, about 7-8 miles from our launch. I’ve actually put 20 some minutes on my ski, but spent all day on it. 10 minutes down and 10 minutes back at WOT on glass. Makes for a great day.
When it comes time to travel, load two up, and we’re off.

Guess I don't understand why anybody would want to spend a day on a sandbar if the water conditions are like glass...

            I was 60 once. Pushing 70 now.

I wonder if it's like golf where the speed of your 'Ski should equal your age... If that's the case, I'll have to look into modifying my Ultra 310.

Hmm, guess that’s why I’ll be picking up my 22 GP 1800 this month. The Historic Merrimack River is a great place to ride. From Groveland Ma. Down to Newburyport, about ten miles of glass on a good day, just checking off buoys at WOT. Then it’s No Wake under the 95 and Rt. 1 bridge to Newburyport Harbor. Go to the right under a small bridge behind Plum Island or straight out the mouth the the ocean. But some days, when the tide is right and the Sandbar opens, it’s just nice to lay back and enjoy the scenery.

My daughter, buddy, and I are going to join you out there sometime this Summer, if you'll have us! You aren't on a Seadoo anymore right?
