  • Most effective anti theft option for a trailer?

With the prices going through the roof our toys are a big target for thieves. What kind of security tools do you guys use to deter thieves so they go for something easier.

Not everyone can put their stuff in a garage or behind some fence, this is strictly security for trailers parked outside on driveways and such. Parking a vehicle in front is also not always possible.

I'm looking at some big motorcycle chains to lock the wheels to the frame. Tongue lock and grinding the bolt/nut hex so they can't be undone with a wrench. Battery powered sawzalls are hard to stop though, with a good blade they eat through mild steel like butter.

Proven industry locks I run for traveling with my ski. Weld the coupler bolts too. After that insurance claim

I have the Proven lock for my trailer coupler, and it is quite good. PacLock makes several rather secure puck locks that fits the Proven hardware. PacLock even offers a stainless steel version.

There are several threads from prior years with lots of info and options for trailer security. Do a search, lots of good info posted.
Copy and paste some good links here so others can also find the info.

Don't forget about securing the skis to the trailer.

Some people also install cellular/radio/GPS tracking devices inside the watercraft.

Take the trailer tongue off. can't pull the trailer without a tow point.

That's cute. Better remove your chains as well. Because I can tie them to my hitch easy enough. I've got extra lengths of chain on my truck, every truck should. So the above is a waste of time. I can chain up the nose of your trailer and be gone in 30 seconds.

Remove all of the trailers wheels. Get insurance.

I can still show up with a pair of spare wheels, but don't normally have such.

This works so far. If you can slow them down they will most probably go elsewhere.

Initially I thought that there were two types of locks; the yellow 'weight', and the chain around the axle. It seems to me that a 3 pound weight locked to the wheel would 'slow them down'. 20 MPH and it would be jumping off the ground. That may be rough on the trailer and 'Ski, but I don't think they would go very far.

If you're just REALLY paranoid about it, then pay the monthly fee and stick a GPS tracker on it. Otherwise go with a GOOD coupler lock. I run this one on our show truck hauler....https://www.rhinousainc.com/products...upler-lock-kit.

I know nothing is 100% fool proof, but I think multiple deterrents is key. I have a Club wheel lock on one wheel, i remove the other and support it on a stand, and a ball coupler lock, the coupler itself is welded to the frame so cant remove it... The ski itself can still be carried off though
