  • My trailer re-hab project ...

Starting with a 2004 SEA LION single galvanized trailer..
Not going too crazy just a basic re do to something that better fits my personal tatse on what a trailer should look like without spending a small fortune..
    For now I'm doing...

    All new wiring & plug
    New LED lights
    New winch strap
    New front bumper roller
    New safety cables
    New bunk wood
    New bunk carpet
    New front coupler
And basically just clean everything up and give it some fresh paint

Then I will look into a new wheel and tire set up and some more custom touches like some type of front storage box and I want to put a makeshift carpeted 'walkway' on the sides at the fender height to make it easier to walk around while launching and working on ski..I have a few ideas in my head just have to put something together..

I just picked this one up yesterday..here's how I got it...

Started to tear it down as soon as I could...

It's now ready to be prepped for primer and paint..I'll take some more pics the next day I get a chance to work on it..

Got some progress done...everything mostly painted and put back together few details and finishing touches to do..still have to wire new lights and install some other new stuff..
Cut new pressure treated 2x4's @ 6tft, got them sanded down, rounded the edges, etc..still need to wrap them
Also got hardware to mount box, new eye hooks for rear tie downs, new stainless screws and finsh washers for bunks, etc..

Also got hardware for winch safety chain..

dumb question; are LED lights much more resistant to the constant abuse of salt/water compared to regular tails?

I'm not sure...this is my first set that will be making the plunge..
I think you want to get submersible as opposed to waterproof..and I also read to maximize life unplug them from truck 5 min b4 launching ..
I also asked the same question to the guy at the trailer place..he said nothing can stop the salt water from fucking anything up..
I'll let u know how I make out..just re wired everything and mounted them up..they are nice and have built in flush mounted side marker and led license plate bulbs..
At the wire connections I used the proper connectors, melted the edges tight to the wire, covered them in two heavy coats of liquid electrical tape gel, then electrical taped over than when it dried..hopefully all that will keep some water out..

Scored some nice 10" wheels on wider tires with a lot nicer looking tread as well ...they are just plain wheels but much nicer to have something with the wider tires, bigger wheels, better tread design, and just bigger overall...I will feel better towing on the highway with something bigger than a wheel barrel sized tire

What kind of paint did you use on your trailer? I have an older double trailer that needs to be completely refinished. Lights and all. It is all rusted too. How do you string the new wiring for the lights?

Still holding up very well. Used rattle can paint that was for metal with a handheld spray trigger.
Tie your new wires to one end of the old wires and pull thru until the old ones are out and new ones are thru.

Selling this trailer now and going to get to work on a double over the winter
