I picked up this sportsman galvanized double trailer the other day and have set about making it right. A couple things to notice right away, its got really big tires and wheels, the bunks are 8 foot long, the fenders are huge, and the axle is dead in the middle so it has no tongue weight. I will be correcting these and a few other little things over the next few weeks.

Today's goal was to get it restored, this meant new carpet, bunks, hardware, lights, and wiring.

For the boards I used 8-0 foot 0-2x0-4 pressure treated lumber and 1-1/2 inch stainless steel lag screws to secure it down. The carpet is attached with 3/8 stainless steel staples.

Here are the important measurements.

Overall length 17-5 feet
Axle position from rear of bunks 6-2 feet
Bunk height 1-8 feet
Inside of fender to trailer center 3 feet 7-1/2 inches
Spring width 1-3/4 inches
Spring length 27-1/2 inches
Height of fender above frame 9-1/2 inches
Axle and spring thickness 3-1/2 inches

A couple observations here,

The skis that will be on the trailer are Kawasaki STX's which measure 10-3 feet and have a balance point roughly 5-2 feet from the rear.

The axle is currently a spring under which is why the fenders are so high compared to my sportsman single trailer which is a spring over setup which has 4-0 inches of fender above the trailer frame.

The problem with the current setup is 2 fold, the fenders are too tall which limits the space above the trailer because it forces the ski to sit into the space between the fenders. The second problem is that the axle is way to far forwards so that even if the ski is set as far up as it can be there is almost no tongue weight. My plan is to shift the ski back so it sits flush with the end of the bunk, then move the axle to correctly set the tongue weight. I don't know why the axle is where it is but as it sits the trailer is unusable without a large amount of weight up front.

This is the same trailer I have. I love it. I have hauled two Ultras on one trip and my 300 and my quad on another trip to Lake Havasu.
