  • Adding cargo basket and 14 gallon fuel caddy gas tank to Triton LT single trailer

I just installed this basket to fit the 14g Duramax Flow n' Go.

I used a Warrior Products cargo hitch.

    An RV hitch mount.

It took A LOT of figuring on line and searching just to find a small basket that will fit the tank exactly!

Also mounting was tricky and needed some stuff from Mcmaster Carr.

It will run you about $450 for this whole setup.

You can do it cheaper if you buy a cheaper basket and do some cutting and welding to make it smaller.

I wanted to do it all bolt on.

Would you be able to provide the actual part numbers and/or links to the main hardware pieces you purchased?

I have the same model fuel caddy (actually, two of them) and am interested in doing something similar.

Have you stress tested it with a full tank of fuel?

I am concerned about the amount of twist and strain the levered cargo tray will apply to the tongue section.

Basket/tray is made of steel or aluminum?

I have not tested it but will soon and report back. I did stand on the basket and bounce on it and saw nothing move. It was ROCK solid. I weight 215lbs and the tank full is 100lbs.

The universal hitch has very nice heavy duty brackets and two bolts on the receiver to tighten down the cargo hitch. I also mounted it on the winch section which is 5” thick.

Here are the parts for bolt on install.

      Warrior Products Cargo Hitch part # 836 - 36″x17″x5″

I spent MANY hours to find this one and this is the ONLY one that is an exact size for the tank. Many cheaper and larger baskets are avalible but the basket will be right next to the tongue and stick our further.

This is made in the USA and very quality piece. This is steel. The aluminum larger baskets I found were only lighter by very little because it’s the basket only that is aluminum.
The receiver they all sit on are ALL steel.

The steel tubing is hollow and powder coated. This makes it only a little heavier than a aluminum basket

      Ebay had it the cheapest!

The next thing you will need is Surco RV bumper adapter model # B100

This is the part that puts a receiver hitch onto the trailer.

This was the best quality that had the correct type of brackets that will bolt on.

      Best price shipped. http://store.123greetings.com/surco-...-x-4-b100.html

      Hardware from Mcmaster Carr.

You need this SS stud http://www.mcmaster.com/#95412a716/=ukgsos

Comes 10 in a pack and I have 6 left if you pay for shipping I’ll send them.

You need 4 couplers in this size! http://www.mcmaster.com/#93525a308/=ukgu6i

      And that’s it’s!

You now have a cargo basket for whatever fits or an exact fit with the Flow n’ Go!

If I filled my Prius C I have a tow range of about 450 miles on 8 gallons of fuel. With 14gallon tank (12gallon usable) I can go easily 1000+ miles!

Once last tip. Your winch has 3 holes to bolt to the trailer. I believe Triton uses two of them. Anyway you will need to move the bolts to the two closest holes toward the jetski. This will allow the installation of the hitch receiver under the trailer.

Post a pic once you complete it!

Can you post some detail photos of how you mounted the RV hitch to the trailer frame tongue?

Some guys may disbelieve the idea of driving 1000 miles on 20 gallons of gasoline!

Over the winter I intend to investigate adding a clunk pickup inside the Flo 'n Go fuel caddy to allow more of the fuel to be drawn out from the bottom of the tank. Frustrating to have so much fuel left inside and no easy way to get it out!

Tip: I added a Shrader valve to the fuel fill cap on my Flo 'n Go. Now I can add a bit of air pressure (not too much!) and pump the gas 'uphill' into the ski on the trailer. Need a compact and portable source of mildly compressed air, of course. I leave it up to others to figure out how to do that.

How close does it get to the truck when towing and turning tight? Looks good, thought about doing something along the same lines

I have not road tested it yet but when I go out to the lake I will turn hard right and take a picture to show.

Here is how the mounted area looks.

Since this is on a car not a truck with a class 3 hitch I would wonder what the tongue weight is with that tank full?
Sounds like this is on a prius right? Good idea I like the though and way you put it on there any reason you didnt do it crosswise in the front of the ski?

I was planing on getting the tongue weight on my next trip to the lake. It will be over the hitch rating of 200lbs but part of the rating comes from the loading of my suspension.

I have added Firestone Ride-Rite airbags into the springs which are rated for 1000lbs of load carrying. I'm not going to go that high with my Prius C lol. Before the basket I was about 120lbs on the tongue.

Now I think it will be closer to 225-250lbs with gas and all.

With 46mpg which I already do get going up a grade to 2700 feet I would be at 920 miles on 20 gallons. This is from a 110 mile round trip to the lake and back. On a longer trip with flatter terrain it will average out even higher then 46mpg.

Did you put the shrader valve over the vent hole on the file cap?

Love to hear about the clunk pickup down the road.
