  • 2008 Triton LTWCI Refresh Project

So I was finally able to get my hands on a Single Triton Trailer. Picked it up for a great price and the frame is in good shape which is all i cared about.

    What will be changed:
    • (2) 6 1/2" Sealed LED Red Oval Trailer lights (Optronics STL22RB)
    • (2) 2 1/2" Sealed LED Red Clearance Lights (Optronics MCL59RB)
    • (1) 2 1/2" x 1 1/4" Sealed LED Clearance Light (Optronics AL191AB)
    • (1) LED License Plate light (Optronics LPL91CB)
    • (2) 5' Carpeted Bunks (CE Smith CE27820)
    • (2) 1500lb 3 Leaf Springs
    • 3" Channel Coupler (Fulton 22300 0101)
    • Safety Chains (Tie Down Engineering 81203)
    • Hub assembly + Wheels/Tires (Will be moved from my other trailer since it is all less than 6 months old)
    • All hardware will be swapped out for 316 Stainless Steel (Purchased from www.boltdepot.com)
First thing I did was just wash the trailer down and sprayed it with NAPA's Aluminum Brightener. You can see the drastic difference in the pictures. Really cleans up the aluminum. Below are the before pictures.

Highly recommend you use Aluminum Brightener if you want to bring back your aluminum trailer with minimal work.
I ran out so you will not that the picture with the rear view of the trailer will have the aluminum to the left side of the left bunk cleaned up nicely and the middle between the bunks is not.

From here, I want to polish the frame a bit and clean it up so I will be using Flitz polish and buff ball as I have gotten great results with it and it requires minimal work. I will post more pictures once I get the trailer completely cleaned up and begin to polish.

Wow, nice work. I wish I could find a used triton around here.

Wow what a coincidence. I just picked up an 07 that's going to need almost the exact same work.

I just replaced the hubs and new aluminum wheels and tires are on the way.

after that will be the new springs and updated hardware.

thanks for the aluminum brightning tip as I was going to post a question about it soon.

Bought mine for $525, care to share the price you paid for yours?

I also just sold my four-year-old galvanized for $480.
Now: 2012 SeaDoo GTI 155 Limited

      Then: 2011 SeaDoo GTI SE 130, 2008 SeaDoo GTI SE 130 , 1994 Kawasaki SS Xi, 1989 Kawasaki ZX10, 1986 Yamaha Radian

I paid $400 and with under $200, it will be a brand new trailer with all new hardware minus axle. I finished my last midterm yesterday so I will finally get back on the trailer to finish it and swap the ski over. I will post a picture of 3 sections: One will be without anything, the other will be with just aluminum brightener and the the last one will be with aluminum brightener and then hit with Flitz.

sweet deal you got. After I sold my galvanized, I'll be in it for about $300, but it will last forever and be something I can maintain - unlike the "maintenance free hubs" my old trailer had. Those were a ticking time bomb that already blew up on me last year. Good riddance to those

I never trust anything maintenance free. I always treat it like every other part. Just like these new 'maintenance free' superchargers on the seadoo. They are probably using better materials and engineered for less wear but it should get maintenance done after a couple hundred hours. Even BMW marks their transmissions as maintenance free. I decided to change the fluid anyways at like 80k and when i saw it and sent it to blackstone, I couldn't believe i waited that long.

For the trailer, just get a good set up bearings and good grease with buddy bearings and that's it. I have never had a bearing fail on me yet (knock on wood) just by repacking them every so often.

I'll be buying some aluminum brightener today and installing my new wheels/tires. (before and after pics to come)

Is it OK to spray it over the stickers on the frame or should I take protective measures to cover them?

                  New wheels and tires installed.

                  Old galvanized wheels

                  New aluminum wheels

Got a pretty good deal on the new wheel/tire setup from eBay. $89 each w/free shipping. Most places want close to that price for galvanized around here. I happened to be in my local ACE hardware and they had a "new" tire/galvanized wheel and the tire had a date stamp on it from 2006...

They did not have the aluminum brightener, so I'll pick that up at West Marine this week.

You guys like these trailers because they hold up better to the salt water or is there more to it than that?

That's my primary concern, plus not having maintenance free hubs.

Not sure if their torsion axle models have those hubs or not...

The trailer I bought is a 2007 and the frame is in near new condition (less a little cleaning it needs), so it appears they're bullet proof.

My understanding is that all models and years of Triton watercraft trailers have standard trailer wheel bearings.

All recent Triton watercraft trailer models (and perhaps all models ever?) have either Sure-Lube or EZ-Lube axle hubs, whereby fresh grease can be pumped in and push the old grease through the bearings and out of the hub. Regreasing is as easy as connecting the grease gun to the nipple in the outer end of the axle stub and pumping in fresh grease until all the old grease has been displaced.

On Sure-Lube leaf spring axles the old grease exits from the back of the hub into the hollow axle, where it stays forever. On the Sure-Lube torsion axles the old grease falls out the back of the swing arm via a weep hole.

The EZ-Lube hubs are similar but the old grease comes out around the outside of the hub.

I often see the names of these two hub types interchanged. The result is the same in terms of getting fresh grease into the wheel bearings, but I find that the rubber disc used to seal the access hole dust cap on EZ-Lube hubs tends to fall out or allow water to seep in, especially after a few years.

The Sure-Lube dust cap has a grease nipple right on the cap.
