Replacement torsion axle for old trailer need help finding axle

I think I need to replace the torsion axle on my double trailer and can not find anything that looks like what I have. Can someone help me identify it and where to get axle?

yesterday my fender broke off and the tire is leaning so want to replace the axle(s)

Better pics would help…. But you’re looking to replace the axle. Torsion axles are made differently by different companies, then they bolt or weld up the axle stubs. See attached:

looks like the torsion half axle is what I am needing. Thank you. Now I need to measure my bolt spacing and see if they match

Take the tire off and look at what you have. Then match it up.

Looks like the axle assembly has two 'torsion stub axles' bolted inside, one on each end.

This link is just an example. 1000 pounds axle rating might not be enough capacity for the two PWC you have loaded onto your trailer, but shows the kind of axle I think you are looking for.

I will suggest finding a way to get the two watercraft off the trailer so you can lift the trailer to work on the axle.

That is definitely the style I need. Now I’m trying to find the same bolt on pattern that I have. I have 8 bolts and mine are spaced 4.25” and the 3500lb ones I see for sale that have 8 bolt holes are spaced 3.88” according to there spec sheet.

I found a pic on Reddit of a guy asking the same question and I have asked him who the manufacturer is. I hope he replies so I can try to get the exact ones. If not I will see about drilling new bolt holes in my frame mount for these.

A 2000 pound load rating (for the entire axle assembly) is probably the ballpark for your trailer.

3500 pound rating seems kinda high

The 2000lb only has 6 bolt holes and the 3500lb has 8. That’s the only reason I’m saying that high. What I have now has 8 bolts holding it on.

Pretty sure I’ve found that my trailer is a early 90’s Shorelandr and the Reddit person got his from Omaha marine. I am going to contact them to see what they can get.

although I might just go with the flexiride ones and just drill new holes. If they are compatible and better quality than the OE ones.

I’m assuming they are worn out since both tires are wearing on the inside badly and the other day I had a fender break off. I think the tire bounced up and hit it. If you watch the video I linked before you can see where it rubbed the fender and where it broke. Pretty sure it’s a early 90’s trailer and it’s never been replaced as far as I can tell. All the bolts still have factory paint. They have to be fatigued and just worn out. My bearing are good because I’ve replaced them last year and checked them a couple weeks ago and they are still like new.

Torsion axles do not last forever. They do last a long time, but the actual suspension stuff inside that provides the torsion effect is rubber.

Thirty years old torsion axle, apparently is old enough, they just aged out.

I looked at it real close to measure the bolt pattern and I can see the top rubber part is very compressed and actually coming out the end and clearly see the metal axle part is at an angle.

so I measured the bolt pattern and it is 4” between the outer two bolts and 4.5” between the center bolts. Very odd non typical pattern. With a rough estimate of 3.5” from front to back bolt. The flexiride bolt pattern is 4.5” front to back and 3.88” spacing side by side according to spec sheet.

after measuring I called a couple pwc dealers asking for a quote a new double trailer and both said they only sell trailers to pwc buyers that have prepaid already and will not order me one.

so back to fixing what I got. I am thinking I will order the 3500lb flexiride axles and the backing plate they make and just see if I can bolt and or weld the plate to my trailer and then bolt on the new half axles.

then of course weld up my fenders to match the new axles.
