I have ordered the 3500lb half axles. I’m hoping at least one existing bolt hole will line up with replacements and then I can drill out the other holes and weld the other side if they line up. Guess the good thing with fenders needing welded back in is I can move them front to back to line up with where the new axles are. I’m also hoping I can fit 10” tires on the new ones vs the 8” I have now.

Now might be a good time to clean up the rust, give it a coat of paint, that sort of thing.

        Perhaps refresh the trailer lights/wiring

I do plan to rejuvenate the whole trailer while it’s unloaded. I might have to get a new rear bar welded on since this one got bent. I did the lights last year with all new wires brackets etc. I ran a dedicated ground wire to every light.

I orders the base plates separately from the axles so I got those in and the bolt pattern is pretty close. I can bolt on one side and weld the other. See attached pic.

bad news is I got an email stating the axles were on back order and with a ship estimate of end of June. Called another vendor and some foreign guy took a message and said they’d call me back to let me know if they had them in stock. That was not very promising.

Well this trailer project is put on hold due to not being able to find axles.

So I bought another trailer and just need to replace tires on it. Trying to decide between 10” wide tires or the standard skinny 12”s I prefer the wide tires.

If you are thinking of going with the wider tires, you would need to replace the wheels and fenders, too. At that point, I would consider just getting 13 inch diameter wheels and ST175/80R13 tires, provided there is enough clearance between the tire and fender.

I have to replace fenders anyway since the one left is broken.

If I have the width clearance I want to get this wheel/tire

i like the width and it will lower trailer a little.

Get new bearings and got some of the crusty washers replaced.

found out the fender skirt rubs my 8” tires. So now I’m trying to find wide fenders so I can run the 10” tires.

I am going to check with a family friend that works at a metal shop to see if he can make me something. If not I will try to find a set of wide enough and just fab some brackets to get them to bolt to what I have. I really want to run the wider tire.

also I plan to document the bearings and races I used because it took me 2 days and 6 stops to try and find what I needed. The old bearings did not have part numbers on them and my bearings were 1 1/16” on the out side and inner one was 1 3/8” and of course the first set I got the race was to small so after searching for another 30 mins found what I needed. Finally got it all together and greased up and the bunk bolted back on. Planning to go riding tomorrow so I’ll report back how that goes.

anyone know of a wide fender to use?

I found these that list as 9” wide. I will measure my support bars to see if it will rest on them and then I can use brackets to attach to fender then attach to my trailer. If it will go deep enough to not rub tire on the fender skirt.
