  • How To Replace a Plastic Pump Liner

    • First you need to remove the ride plate.
      · 3/8 Socket wrench
      · Extension
      · 14 mm socket
      · 10 mm socket
      · 10 mm wrench
      · Flathead screwdriver
      · Yamabond / 1211 sealer
      · Removable thread locker
Above are the basic tools needed to first remove the housing from the pump assembly.

This is an easy task to do. I purchased my plastic liner form Carl at Island Racing.

Less than $ 50.00 shipped to my door.
Call Carl at ISLAND RACING for pricing information.

This liner lasted me roughly 2.5 years / 80 hours. It had the typical cavitation burn at about 8:00 that all 66V liners are known for.

When the liner arrives, it will not just slide into place.
One technique I used that I did on past Sea-Doo pumps from the 90's was to place the housing in the oven and the liner in the freezer each for about 20 minutes.
This allowed the Liner to shrink and the housing to expand to allow a little clearance for the liner to press in.

I used a rubber mallet to get it started.

After I get 98% of it pressed in, I then take the old liner and tap on the top of it to get it fit perfectly flush top and bottom of the housing.

Plastic liners are Easy to do and inexpensive to replace.

    Old Liner

    Typical 66V Cavitation pitting !!!

I used a HackSaw to Cut it

Use a Blade Screwdriver to separate the liner and housing.

    Pry It Out

    Old Liner OUT !

New Liner from Island Racing !!

Place Liner in Freezer for 20 minutes to shrink

Ala de' Housing at 350 degrees

Hammering in new liner with rubber mallet (do it /careful & easy)

    New Liner Installed !!

Use Old Liner to Flush-Up New Liner (Tap)

    Flush !

Hey Billy, heres how you can do the whole job in less than 1 minute, if you have a press. Place the new liner on the old one then start pressing, the old one just pushes out, and the new one goes in its place. Learned that trick from Carl.

            yEp, it sure will.

But I don't have a Press. So I had to improvise.

With a rubber mallet and some WD-40, a little tap to push her in and she's set. Super tight fit. A couple of cranks of the motor and you can see the shavings from the new groove cut into it from the impeller.
                  Super Super Tight Clearance !

                  You can see the shavings..........

I've got a spare wear ring. Am I able to remove the metal insert and just purchase the new liner and press it in or does the housing have to be milled to accept the plastic insert?

You have to have it milled. The best thing to do is call Carl. He sales housings that are already milled with the new ring already installed.

I think I need to replace the pump housing or wear ring, on my GP1200R . can I fit a plastic wear ring to the standard Yamaha pump ? If I remove the old ss wear ring.
                            thanks.

The OEM housing needs to be machined to accept the plastic liner.
