No,
you would NOT want to use glue or epoxy to hold these together. These straps are made to hold your tank in position if the ski goes upside down. If those straps get contaminated with oil or grease (which they will) the glue will release, possibly causing fuel tank to release fuel over a hot engine. Boooooom. No good.

You know there is a glue that would glue the two pieces together not sure what is best but Golilla glue will work. Put the two pieces together then clamp them 24 hours later done. Yours looks good to Kevin

Real nice. I have mine torn down and was debaiting on what to do with the oil tank and straps. This looks like a good option. Nice work.

Did you heat the hole, once you punched it? I think thats a continuous weave, which gives it some strength. I wonder if a piece of aluminum folded over (like a sleeve) with your bolt-through, would be another way to keep the weave from unraveling over time?

Didn't even think about the hole itself unraveling, good point! I will take them apart and burn them. The aluminum piece is a good idea, the undersides of them would have to be scored up so it acts like teeth.

I came up with an easy and cheap gas tank strap mod that does not take long to do.This is just another option to look into.

No more twisting the straps, no more crossing them. This is what i done with my GPR/SHO conversion ski.

First thing is to take a razor blade and cut the threads on the upper strap mount's. Then, take the strap and bolt it to the lower/bottom mounts. With the upper section of the strap that has now had the threads cut, you can take up the slack. I just held the strap to the correct lenght by folding it and pulling it so the bungie is roughly 3/4 of its max extension and making sure it has enough length to bolt it back up to the upper mounts. If you look at the pics, i used a marker and marked were the end of the strap has now moved to.

Now that you have your marks, remove them. I used a hole punch to make the holes. Next step is the hardware. I used all stainless steel, i would not use anything else. Get yourself some flat washers and you will need 4- barbed crush washers. These washers will eliminate any movement. Simply bolt them together. Easy way is to start your bottom bolts first, only run them in 1/2 way. Now i used my cordless drill for the top. It is a little difficult because you have to stretch the bungie while getting the bolts started but not too tough. It came out very clean and it was very easy to do.

Remember.....give yourself a little wiggle room when marking the straps! Do not extend the bungie all the way. You need some play in there. Dont forget to cut off the extra strap material and use a lighter to burn the edges.
One more thing, when marking your straps, mark the underside and not the top like i did. Took me a while to get the marks off.
