I got it right Bill good thing Lowell pulled it apart to port the cases, you would not have gotten very far with the set-up installed the way it was before. My favorite things were the smashed pin and the fact they used half a tube of 1211 right over the old adhesive with out cleaning it off. I think I spent 5 hours just cleaning the cases

Great piece on the crankshaft assembly-- Is there a special lube I should coat bearings with before assembly --There was a red grease I seen on outer bearing? Or do you just Lube down with like amsoil 2 cycle oil?

Also do you have an artical for piston Head assembly/

                  Thanks\

Read this thread it should answer your questions. http://www.greenhulk.net/show...bly&highlight=
I do not put any oil in the crank until I am assembling the cylinders. The grease was Redline assembly lube and I do that on the front bearing only, you will see in the thread I attached.

Hello Bill, i am new here and have been out of the PWC world since the late 1990's but used to rebuild a lot of engines. I am just curiuos as to why you use 1211 on the cases as we always used 1104? You sound like the man here so i just wanted to know.

BTW i have taken on my first ski in about 10 years for a friend that took out the #1 cylinder, crank and cases on a 2003 XLT1200 all stock with only 76 hours so i am in the process of reading all your info on it. Still looking for the cause.

1211 is all I have ever used for cases, most people I know around here use it as well. It is baiscally the same as Yamabond 4

I am familiar with 1211, we used it for all gaskets with the exception of the cases as the 1104 was semi drying and we would apply it to both cases, let it tack up then close it up. I think we got turned on to it by Klem. Just wondering because the 1104 says it is for cases but i agree, the 1211 is great stuff. i guess we tend to sitck with what has worked for us. Just wondered if you had any other reasons. Keep up the great work.

Getting ready to rebuild my crank. Thank you for this instructions. Without these posts on GreenHulk, I would have been spending mucho $$$ to send it to a professional. (Which I still might have too, depending on the shape of my crank)

OSB - Thank you so much for this thread! It is wonderful! I am hanging on every word! Quick question on the surfacing stone, what grit sand paper would be equivalent? I'm not planning on using sand paper, but I have an old pizza stone that the wife won't miss and I was going to compare it to the grit of the sandpaper to see if it can be used for this purpose. Otherwise I'm off to find a surfacing stone.

                              Thanks!

You can use a fine file or anything flat, the goal is to get any raised metal removed. anytime the edge is dinged it raises metal on the sealing surface 400 paper would work fine for this.
Thanks for the compliments, I am always glad to help people here.
