    • Hi Guys, about to complete some mods and would like your opinions. First Ski and first Mods.

      Currently Stock I get 64mph.

      Planned mods
      Ribbon Delete with Riva Ring
      Air Filter Upgrade
      Ride Plate

Now which air filter and which ride plate?

The new Riva gp1800/VXR ride plate vs. Jim's Modded Plate?

Replacement Filter (https://www.4-tecperformance.com/ind...oducts_id=3646) vs. Pro Comp Cool Air (https://www.4-tecperformance.com/ind...oducts_id=1709)

      Couple of Qualifiers

Ski is 16' VXR, ~24 hours
      Ski is stored outside covered
Primarily ski fresh water lakes and rivers on the east coast (PA and NJ), higher humidity.

The Pro Comp Air filter is going to be less restrictive. And zama89 stated one page back in this thread he did not find much increase in top speed with Riva, but better in the rough. I am on a lake and chose Jim Modded Plate with washer on front bolts and that Pro Comp Cool Air with the ribbon delete with Riva ring current max of 67mph.

        • Thanks Luke for the response. I went back and re-read most of this thread.

Debating if I'd prefer the stability/handling of the RIVA plate vs. the speed of Jim's. Some of the rivers do have decent chop.

With the pro comp, and danger with water getting in there when you remove the stock air box?

You should combine it with either the RIVA breather kit or the R&D Power Plenum breather kit to let the air flow better (sounds nice too, definitely a bit louder). All are pretty easy installations just be patient when removing the throttle body, so you don't drop any parts, nuts or tools under the motor, maybe put a towel down in the hull to catch any dropped items. Also, use Locktite Blue when putting the nuts & bolts back on.
I took the ribbon out of mine and did not replace it with anything and im getting plenty of speed and no problems without it.

            • Hey guys new here first post. I bought a 2017 VXR a month ago and I'm a tad disappointed. I have about 18 hours on it now and can only get it to do 59-60 on GPS regularly. Occasionally can hit 61mph. It's 100 percent stock I ride near Clearwater FL so it's quite hot and the gulf water temp is high I'm not sure if that's the problem or not. I added a ribbon delete from Riva yesterday but have not had the ski out to test it yet. I'm turning 7200 Rpm according the the stock display. Any suggestions? I feel like I should be hitting 64-65 consistently as Yamaha says it should do 66.5. Dealerships says my speed is normal.

              • 59-60 on GPS sounds slow to me. Is this on choppy water or is it smooth? My 2013 VXR has seen a max speed of 67.5 on GPS on smooth water. My speed will be in the low 60's in rough water.

                • That is in basically smooth water. Not glass but not rough by any means. I would compare it to an average day at a small lake if that makes sense.

                  • Took the ski out this evening. Water was flat with the ribbon delete 2 bars of gas I am 180lbs fully crouched down weight back 85 degrees I only got it to 62mph on gps. I still feel like it should be faster. It has 19 hours on it. I had the 10hr service done and it did not help. It’s still showing I’m only turning 7200 maybe 7250 RPMs. Again completly stock other than ribbon delete on a 2017 vxr. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

                    • Yes, on smooth water I would say your speed is slow.

62 on GPS today in smooth water with the ribbon delete is better but I would have guessed that it would be faster than that. Maybe some more owners of 2015-2017 VXRs can chime in with their thoughts.

                      • Dump the the stock air box and add a K&N pod air filter right at the throttle body and add a small oil breather and have Jim do a speed cut on your ride plate.

                        • Thanks for the info. How much does the ride plate cutting cost? And how long does it take to send it out and get it back?

                            • How did you do your DIY exhaust. What piping did you use? Clamps and where did you buy they parts from?

                              • I ordered a 3.5 in dia. alum. pipe length 12 inches off of amazon for $20 and cut the hose off coming out off the resonator and inserted the pipe in one end and the other end i stuck in the hose coming from the pump and double hose clamped everything, i add an extra hose clamp to the factory clamps on my ski"s anyway atleast on all the exhaust hoses.
