  • Known Yamaha VXR/VXS Issues

This thread is intended to identify and resolve known issues with the Yamaha VXR/VXS waverunners:

    1. 2011 and some early 2012 models require a recall to replace breaking exit nozzles. You can check your HIN with your dealer to verify. Related thread here

    2. Many of the skis will have a slight bouncing or porpoising effect as you reach top speed on smooth water. The are several ways to counteract this by adjusting or changing the ride plate and/or intake grate. Related thread here

    3. All 2011/2012 VXR/VXS models have the potential to leak water into the hull from the intake grate and/or ride plate mounts. In some cases these are not properly sealed from the factory and can leak. Repeated remove and install of the ride plate and/or intake grate bolts can make it worse. Here are solutions for this:

    4. 2011 and some early 2012 models have a valve on the bilge system that can put water in the hull if reverse is used a lot.
The 2011 part number for the check valve that is known to leak is: 61X-51162-00-00
The 2012 part number for the check valve that solves the problem is: 68N-5112T-00-00

What about the no one way valve thing on some of them that lets water in the hull through the siphon bilge.

I don't think I would categorize #1 as an "issue". That was a minor recall with a very specific, cheap, and quick remedy to the situation. Agree with #2, some experience this, some don't. And for those that have it, there appears to be alot of ways to remedy the issue (plates, grates, Shims, washers, etc).

. . . . no other Issue comes to mind right now. JB

I haven't done that one, what's the deal there?

Some used to have an elbow instead of a one way valve on the siphon bilge pump system. It would let some water in the hull espicially when going in reverse. I'll try to find the thread.

              Known Yamaha VXR/VXS Issues

You can use an fzr valve to replace the vxr one way valve.

I noticed the 2012 part number for the check valve is: 68N-5112T-00-00
And the 2011 part number for the check valve is: 61X-51162-00-00

Anyway to tell for sure which one you have?

The 2011 part number is the crappy 90 degree elbow, the 2012 part number is the check valve that everyone needs.

Thanks for the pic. I verified both of my skis have the preferable valve. But that adds another issue. I've got a water leak somewhere in one of mine. It also happens to be the one that I've done all the prop testing and ride plate removing on. I have a feeling that water is leaking in from under the ride plate mounts. But it appears I have to remove the exhaust manifold to be able to get the waterbox off and replace/reseal the ride plate mounts.
