It's probably because for pretty cheap we can put the FX brackets on and it accomplishes the same task. Hard price point to compete with for how few people actually take the time and effort to do this.

Yeah I understand that, they are just so flimsy though lol. West Marine epoxy kit is where it's at though.

I mean once you epoxy it the cavity in it's pretty strong. You're not really going for any torsional strength here. Just distributing the load. The wide footprint is the key.

I get where you're going but I think a billet one would just be over-engineered bling considering what we already have.

Yeah and I seen those plastic inserts as well. That is a neat idea. Maybe one day I'll get another ski lol.

Now I will say, if somebody combined it and just made a piece that's both the filler and the new bracket/mount. That'd be nice. Basically peel out the old ones, sand down, and just glue down the new piece right into the bolts

To remove intake brackets, put long bolts in intake holes in sky and with a 2x4 and jack put pressure on bolts. Heat with heat gun for about 2 min and they will brake loose!. No need to wrap steering cable with wet rag, just tye it up with bungee cord and you will have plenty of room!

The recommended reinforcement is not for the pump tunnel, but for the intake grate bolt insert area. Applies to 2017 and 2018 GP1800, but not the 2019 GP1800R.

Details of the repair method and oversized reinforcement insert/brackets have been posted in this thread and others.

I have read about fewer VXR hulls than GP1800 having this failure but more than zero.

If I had a VXR I would consider doing the intake grate bracket reinforcement. One time hassle, then no worries.

2015 VXR here, Read about water in the hull as it's the issue I was having, Pulled the Intake grate and sure enough there's a huge stress crack that is leaking water into the hull. I ordered the plates from here and plan on doing this ASAP so I can get back out and ride.
Is there no need to replace the Ride plate Backing plates or the front Intake grate plates?

If you replace your ride plate with the 2019 ride plate from the gp you should gain a couple mph. If that is what you want. I would say intake grate can stay the same.

So the ride plate from the 19' GP will fit the 2015 VXR?

And I was talking about the plates inside the hull that the Ride/Intake plates screw too.

Sorry I did not see the backing plate part. But yes it should just bolt right up. While it is off I'd seal everything as well.

Awesome, I'll pick them up. Looks like $180 for both from the Greenhulk store. So just seal it all like the OP did around the intake plate?
