Thanks again. 4 hours and some cussing. I can handle that.

    • I have the small cracks in exterior but interior looks fine. If I build up the inside recessed area with glass and resin like you did, do I need to do anything to the outside exterior? Thanks

Adding reinforcement layering on the inside of the hull does not mean the outside damage and cracks can be left un-repaired.

The outside layers of the hull are not only important to the structural strength of the hull, the cracks will allow water into the inner layers of the hull material. That area of the hull experiences a lot of stresses as the hull bangs over the waves and the intake grate redirects the incoming water stream, with force. It must be strong.

A proper repair will require the outside cracking to be ground away and layered back together to make a strong result. And also do the inside reinforcement.

          • Thanks just ordered West System epoxy & hardener. I ground out the cracks and kept going as long as I saw a crack in the fiberglass or if it felt softer/movement. One area where the crack was the worse I ended up grinding it out through to the inside to get rid of the crack completely. The inside looks simple to reinforce with this threads directions. My thing is getting the bottom underneath surface completely flat during epoxy application upside down. Bryan mentioned taping a flat wood block to the bottom during curing. Anybody else have advice on the underneath patch? Use fiber glass cut really small with epoxy or cut the fabric up like chopped glass and mix in with epoxy before the patch?

            • So after Yamaha decided to fix the hull for me......I took it in on July 18th, 2021 and got it back Jan 19,2022.......it cracked in the same area over the weekend and it filled up with water half way up the engine. I am so mad right now. I took it back to them today. I guess I should have just fixed it myself to begin with. The "repair" lasted about 4 hours in the water.

If the repair is not done properly, it can easily fail again.

I have posted info on the methods and materials needed to create a lasting repair with NanoXcel hull material. The technique and methods are also important, and differ from traditional polyester fiberglass hull repair.

                • I just got my waverunner back on Friday. I was able to run it 1.5 hrs only so far. I hope it works. They work at a snail's pace. So frustrating.
