Pump bearing install tips.

The absolute best way I have found to install new pump bearings does not involve a press.

Installing the clean driveshaft in the freezer for 10hrs is the start. This will allow the installation of the new bearings and spacer with very little effort.

Next, put the clean stator in the oven @ 350 for 30 minutes. This will let the shaft with bearings to slide into the housing with no effort.

Setbacks on bearings etc. remain the same.

Seals must be installed last with this method but still easy.

I have found this method to have the least effect on bearings and has worked great for me.

Definitely great idea Duke....in similarity, I've done this in the past with putting bearings on pinions before I set the crush sleeve on street cars and it works perfect.

Group-K for the spacer.

The seals I installed after it cooled down with my floor jack handle and some grease. Took very little pressure to get then seated. I'm sure any kind of pipe would work.

Dial indicator. Somewhere Fercho has a PDF on that.

3 questions...

First, how deep do the seals go into the pump? my seals are even with the top of teh pump (not recessed) does this matter?

Second, does the spacer go into the pump? How come the '07 spacer doesn't have a rubber gasket like my '01 did?

Third, how much space should their ideally be between the prop and stator housing? I am at about half an inch.
