  • AFTERMARKET HANDLEBAR WITH STOCK TRIM ASMBLY (PART 2-DETAIL)

OK, lots of people have been doing this mod in their down time. I guess most people have figured out what a piece of junk the drop nozz kit is that is spring loaded. So here is how to go back to your stock trim with a grip of your choice (rubbermade of course, not ODI grips).

The first thing you need is a sharp ass razor blade, or box cutter:

now cut the rubber off the stock trim, all the way down to the plastic piece and peel away the stock grip. Older skis will be tough to do because the grips have been locked on for quite some time now.

now you want to get your aftermarket bars and hold them firmly in place on a work bench of some sort so that you may file the jagged edges down on the trim side of the bars (left side). Most bars come with the ends jagged for grip purposes. You will want to file it down because most are not going to slide easily throught the stock trim assembly.

Now your ready to slide your bars into the trim sleeve. But you want to grease it up so that the trim assembly will rotate around the bar easily.

now hold your grip next to it while its in the sleeve and determine how far the bar needs to hang out so that you may still hook up your start / stop switch before the bar goes into a curve. Maximize your space. you will first see that most grips are longer than the assmbly itself so you will have to let some of the grip hang off and onto the bar (but not on the rotating trim plastic)

in a case like this. We just cut the grip at the beginning so that we could slide more onto the sleeve and not having any hang off the entire bar which you will see shortly.

Once you have marked where you can go and still have the start/stop switch operational on the same side, you will have to mark where you drill the "through-bar" screw that locks the trim system into place.

                            here is the cut grip

here is the hole tapped after maximizing all space on the bar.
