Tips on how to Winterize/Summerize your Yamaha VX/FX

I ended up fogging mine through the spark plug holes. A dealership told me that you can possibly clog the injectors if you go in through the intake. I was not able to find the Yamaha branded fogging oil, but I think any brand should work.

The manual I have seen for the NA 1800 does not go into much detail about fogging. It just says to remove air intake hose to throttle valve & spray a rust inhibitor into it! I have tried spraying fooging oil in, reconnecting hose then starting motor for a few secs & also spraying it in there with motor running. The motor carries on running as normal.......fogging oil does not seem to effect the running of it at all, unlike the MR1 which would be difficult to start, to get the oil through the motor. This is probably due to the larger capacity. If I have to winterise, I think I will spray fogging oil into the throttle valve with motor running & also remove plugs after & get some oil in through the plug holes. I have never had an injector clog because of fogging through the intake.
Any good quality fogging or storage oil will be good.

My ski has 16 hours on it and I am about to winterize. I did the 10 hour service so do I still need to change the oil before/after winter? Or will I be ok with fogging and adding fuel stabilizer?

You will be fine just fogging & adding fuel stabiliizer...........I would also recommend draining the waterbox.

I was in a similar position with 18 hours on mine. I chose to change the oil anyway just to be safe in case any moisture was in the oil. I figured better safe than sorry, and this is only a one time expense/concern. Going forward, I'll just change at the end of every season.

Is the air intake hose #21? Got a 2012 VXR and a newbie at winterizing...

Can you show me the throttle valve on the parts finder?

No......don't go touching that.....#21 is the fuel line connecting to the fuel rail. The throttle valve opening is #1.............you will see a hose from here to the air filter. Not sure if it is the same as the FX.......on the FX there is a clamp which holds/supports the fuel line to the air intake hose........remove the cable tie & free the fuel line, the cable tie is reusable. Then undo the clamp on the throttle body/air intake hose & pull off.

Fog before supercharger. Superchargers and turbos all require oil supplies for use so the idea that fog oil makes them explode is simply false. Don't know where that info came from. They are just as dry as rest of motor at start up. If you are fogging through plugs you need to bump motor WHILE spraying to fully coat since some cylinders up and some down at any time and you want full coat. Don't drop straw down there very costly. Good luck

All of this is such great info as the season approaches for most of us! Thanks.

I have a question about summerization on my 2006 vx110. The oil and filter were changed and only have about 20 hours on it from last season. I oil fogged the engine for winterization. I am about to summerize the waverunner and want to know that due to my oil fogging the engine for winter storage, do I have to change the oil and filter again because of the oil fogging? Or, can I just run the waverunner and burn off the oil fogging and it is good to go without an oil and filter change?
                      Any advice would be appreciated,
                      Chris

I realize this was written in 2009. Would it still pertain to a 2015 VX Deluxe?
                          Thanks!

REMEMBER THIS: the water is added to the ski AFTER the ski is started, and is stopped BEFORE the ski is turned off... if the ski stops running while on water, immediately turn off water flow!

This was in step 2, can someone tell me why this is so important? Thanks.
